Due to this forum, I’ve become obsessed with purses and now Hermes bags! Ideally I’d love to buy new, but a reseller item in great condition may be my first step. My concern is that a reseller item won’t really reflect its age/use in the pictures, and when it arrives it will really look/feel/smell used. How can you tell if the item is still in great condition so that it’s a good deal and worth saving the money, rather than splurging on new?

Quality can be subjective. I’ve purchased pre-loved items listed in “gently used” condition that were like-new when I received them and Items listed as “like-new” that I wouldn’t consider as such. There’s no way to really know. Try buying from reputable resellers with a decent return policy in case you get a dud.
Try Ann’s Fabulous Finds her descriptions are spot on and most of the time better than described.

Was thinking the same. Love AFF! RealReal, on the other hand often overstates condition..
Although I haven’t used it often Fashionphile has a terrific return policy, and while I’ve only bought three bags from Ann’s I was over the moon with each of them.
I’ve never been disappointed or surprised by an item’s condition from Yoogi’s, AFF or Fashionphile. All allow returns, too.
