Hi all!

Looking to get insights on your experiences with cleaning your stone pieces, specifically Onyx. I know Onyx is a fairly hard-wearing stone, but it is also somewhat porous and absorbent. I want to keep that gorgeous shine pristine for as long as I can long-term. My SA said cleaning gently with dish soap and water is fine, but I'm curious as to how others approach cleaning and the result. I'm at the point where rubbing with a soft cloth is no longer going to cut it.

Any thoughts or experiences shared are greatly appreciated!

I just run it under warm water and pat dry with a towel. This usually takes off all the grime, fingerprints, etc without resorting to any kind of soap.

I have been using an electrosonic cleaner with a solution my SA gave me that they use in store but I have also used foaming soap with good success. I had an ohsh** moment a few weeks ago when my onyx Magic pendant got stuck in between metal and I thought it put a nice scratch in the stone at the time. I was going to take it to my SA, but I started reading about cleaners/polish for onyx and gave a granite cleaner a try. It completely buffed the scratch out and the piece is actually shiner than it was before. I cannot even tell where the scratch was. I have been using it on all my other onyx pieces and I really like it.

This is so helpful!! Thank you so much for sharing this. I would have never even thought of using a granite cleaner--I'm glad to hear it made your piece even shinier and got rid of the scratch! I'm intrigued by this in-store solution as well.

Could you post name of the granite cleaner please?

I’ve had mine since 2016 and never cleaned it. Still looks great. It’s the holiday pendant so maybe the diamond in the center makes fingerprints or grime less noticeable.

Sure! It's TriNova Granite Cleaner and Polish for Daily Use and TriNova Granite Sealer & Protector. Got both from Amazon. I don't think it will hurt the gold but I try and avoid it by using a q-tip.

I do not think I have really had to clean mine either. The RG looks better when it is clean though, I have noticed.

Hand soap or dishwashing soap with warm water...Hasn't failed me yet and I've had my Onyx since 2018. I never use any type of brush because I'm afraid of scratches...rubbing with my fingers is more than enough.

I do this with all the stones (even Malachite), Hammered and Guilloche...every single one is still vibrant and hasn't lost any luster.

I have a friend who never takes off her Onyx pendant and after so many years of "abuse", it still looks amazing. Onyx is very hardwearing.

Any advice on sevres porcelain stone - my Paris vendome pendant isn’t as shiny anymore and would like to try and clean it as well !
A very, very mild hand soap without fragrance and warm water is what I use and I never put it in the ultrasonic cleaner. Dry it immediately and thoroughly. I am super fragile with the Sevres pieces as I am not sure the stone could be replaced.
