I just bought this diamante drop earrings and after finalizing the purchase, the SA just told me that I should not wear lotion, perfume and wear it at least 15minutes after taking my bath. That seems a handful  . Also I'm very confused of what kind of cleaning cloth is safe for these type of jewellery? The SA told me only a very soft cloth allowed otherwise it would scratch which really concerns me.

I have this normal jewellery cleaning cloth that have 2 layers, one for cleaning & one for polishing. I attached picture of it. I wonder if this cloth is soft and safe enough? And how to prevent it to get darkened especially I live in a tropical humid country?

Make sure your hands and hair are dry & clean before wearing it and then, always wipe/clean w/ cleaning cloth after wearing it to be ready to use it next time & put in a pouch/jewelry box in a dry area.

I know that Chanel costume jewelry is not gold-plated and will tarnish over time. My questions are
1. Have you tried to minimize tarnishing before happening? I know the fact that other costume jewelry gets almost no tarnish when they are kept in a sealed plastic bag with an anti-tarnish strip. Does anyone keep Chanel jewelry in that way?
2. Is it better to keep in the black Chanel jewelry pouch? Does it have any effect on anti-tarnish? I wish because some jewelry box has an anti-tarnish liner.
3. Have you ever tried to gold-plate any tarnished Chanel costume jewelry? When my jewelry gets really really tarnished later, I might want to try it because I have seen a video that people refurbish a Chanel bag by gold-plating the hardware. Any suggestion?
4. Is Chanel costume jewelry in the gold color the same material as the gold hardware of Chanel bags? I'm wondering because the gold hardware of Chanel bags doesn't tarnish that much.

Please share your thoughts with us~!

I’ve had my Chanel costume jewelry for 15-20 years and have bought vintage pieces also. I’ve never had any issues with tarnishing. I just keep them in a velvet lined drawer. I don't even keep them in the bags unless I’m traveling, because I like to be able to pull the drawer out to see what I need. Hope this helps!

Thank you for sharing your experience. I recently purchased a choker and have been worried about that it will tarnish over time and I will end up wasting my money. Now, I feel much better. I think that some tarnished cases are blown out of proportion, so they give people bad impression on Chanel costume jewelry.

In my experience, it’s very important to keep it from getting wet. I got caught in the rain with a necklace once. I did my best to dry it off, but it still began to tarnish shortly after.
Oh No!! Sorry! Even though you dried it off, it still got tarnished only from rain. Did you wash it with clean water and soap or just dried it with a towel? Do you think that it's better to use some cleaning solution after each wear since a necklace can get some lotion or body oil into it?

Well I think it’s best to just avoid water altogether, especially with this choker. There are so many interlocking links that it will be hard to dry. And be sure to avoid wearing perfumes/oils/lotions on your neck when you wear it. Those can damage the metal as well.

Hello everyone, just wondering how do you clean and store your Chanel costume jewelry. What do you do to prevent it from tarnishing? Personally, I clean mine with baby shampoo and an old, soft toothbrush. I also use the Pandora polishing cloth to clean minor tarnished spots and to bring out the shine. Those usually work well for me. However I’m wondering if anyone else has a better way to maintain them? Please do share :flowers:

Same instructions for wearing south sea or other pearls re lotion and perfume. I keep the fashion jewelry in a separate soft lined
Wempe jewelry box but the light suede has discolored from the jewelry, so Perhaps store in dark colored velvet or suede.
