Do you prefer the classic, round pearl shape or are you open to others? If you are, then I would recommend biwa pearls, baroque shapes, keshi pearls, etc. The more natural, imperfect shapes give you the beautiful glow of pearls, but in a far more artsy and less classic shape.

I would also recommend layering multiple stretch pearl bracelets, as that is a less classic and more artsy look. Honora has many sets of stretch bracelets with at least 10 bracelets per set. Colored pearls and multi-color strands are also less classic. You could also layer many necklaces together to get a different, unusual look.

actually i love unusual shapes and sizes and i think its would be more suitable for my style. However, i do have couple of classic pieces(they were gifts) and was hoping to get some use out of it. I have black pearl necklace and earings(i think pearl size is about 8mm) and 5mm or so white pearl earrings and single pearl pendant

I layer my short pearls with long "funkier" bead or gold chain necklaces from places like JCrew and Anthropologie. My dress style is French/Parisian/downtown.

With edgy clothes, a classic pearl strand is no longer that classic. My sis is an artist, she is always in very weird outfits, lots of black and deconstructed fashion garments (think Martin Margiela), and her favorite piece of jewelry is a 5 row vintage pearl necklace. I wish I had a pic to show you.

my sister has a 8mm white pearl necklace 16 inch and she wears it with her 26 inch tiffany key, and it looks so cool!! I tried to emulate it...nope looks better on her!!

she's more hipster style though, i'm more about skirts and dresses, girly etc...so perhaps it just wasn't my style...didnt prevent me from trying though LOL
