How do I find a jeweler to make a custom silver or gold design?

I have pictures of some jewelry I'd like. None of them involve jewels. It's just silver or gold. I was wondering how I'd go about finding out what jewelers could do this.

Is online or in person better? Is there a reputable online place that will make things if you send them sketches or pictures?

Thanks.

I just recently had some charms in 18k gold made. I described what I wanted and sent them pictures and they did an excellent job. I found the company online. They are www.jthomsoncustomjewelers.com . I have been working exclusivity with the owner, Jeff, and have been very impressed with the outcome as well as the communication every step of the way. He initially made a mold of what I wanted in silver to quote me a price on the job, so I assume he works with that as well.

I am not affiliated with this company, just had a good experience.

I was looking around for some plain bands on evilbay about a month ago and I found a lady that makes her own jewelry (awesome stuff!). I asked her about a couple dif things I had in mind and she said she could do it. Not sure if I'm allowed to post her name though??
