how can I get this wavy textured hair?

My hair is naturally straight,it has just the teeniest amount of any kind of wave to it.And I mean a tiny amount.

i braid my hair while it's damp and sleep on it overnight.

If you want it permanently, the only way is a chemical perm with your hair wrapped loosely around the curlers. Otherwise, a blowdry will do.

Blowdry it with a diffuser or do what Mrs. Jimmy H does. My other suggestion is to spray a product like John Frieda's Beach Head (or whatever it's called - it contains salt) and twist your hair with your fingers and allow it to dry naturally.
