Hello. I have a pre loved checkbook cover that I wanted hot stamped with initials. The CS in the store said he didn’t recommend hot stamps in vintage because it doesn’t take well. He noted the smoothness of the leather material compared to newer pieces.

Has anyone had issues with hot stamps on vintage pieces?

TIA

I had a similar discussion in Lisbon. The CA there only debossed the stamp on my old luggage tag but did not recommend adding color or gold foil - he said it would not take. Maybe I should have pushed for the gold foil…the CA in Madrid did put gold foil on another tag and it worked out fine. She went back over with the gold foil several times.

I obviously prefer the foil as it adds depth and dimension. At the very least ..if the foil wears away over time, you’d still have the debossing.

I have heard different opinions. In LA the CA said the same thing - it is harder with older items. In NYC they commented on how much better the gold looks because it pops on the patina of the older tag. No issues with that one so far but it's been about a month.
