I had the oddest thing happen to me, and I am hoping someone can shed some light on it. I purchased a Chanel Quilted Caviar Sac Divers from a popular consignment site. The bag is lovely and has all of the hallmarks of authenticity. But I was shocked to see that there is a hole punched in the tag sewn inside the bag (photo attached). The selling site did not mention this, and thus I have no explanation for what this might mean (I have emailed them but I am anxious to figure this out!). My only guess is that it may have been sold at one if Chanel's urban legend sample sales? Does anyone know what this hole in the tag signifies? As much as I like the bag, I am wondering if I should keep it. Thanks in advance for any insight you can lend to me.

Sometimes bags that are sold at a good discount are marked so they can’t be returned. Brands that have an outlet will also mark them so items bought at an outlet can’t be returned at a full retail store.

True, but I have never heard of Chanel selling their bags via an outlet - is anyone on here aware of them doing that? And the only steep discount sales I know of are the uber exclusive sample sales that employees and industry people are invited to.

It would be great to know if anyone on this forum has actually seen or heard of this sort of Chanel tag marking.

Thanks, everyone! Now I just need to decide if I should keep the bag, given the selling site did not disclose this issue. It does not affect my use of the bag at all (I just care that the bag is authentic) but it definitely affects the bag's resale value should I ever want to sell it. So disappointing when sellers are not forthcoming and appropriately transparent.

If it’s rare / hard to find, I would keep it. But, if it’s a bag you can get some other time at approx the same price, I’d return. As you said, it won’t affect how you wear it but, it will make people leery should you decide to buy. I know I wouldn’t buy one with the hole punch and I’m pretty aggressive about getting a deal on Chanel.
