So me and le BF took a mini vacay in Stockholm this week. Mysteriously (or not) I ended up wandering into the NK department store bag section. Lots of cool stuff there. When we were just about to walk away, I happened to bump into a small display featuring Hill & Friends Happy Bags.
No one probably remembers this, but I hated the bags at first sight online. I just didn't get why Emma would go from designing Alexa and other delightful Mulberry creations to those clumsy-looking bags. Well...boy, was I wrong!
I took a closer look at the Happy Chain Bag in oxblood/wine red. O.M.G. NOW I understand! The leather was yummylicious, the lining a gorgeous matching-color suede and the whole line looks just amazing. Even the winking postman's lock was cute - something that I really disliked when I first saw pictures of the bags. The bags are WAY more attractive in person and very functional as well. The pictures do not do them justice!
I became an instant fan and found it really hard to put the bag down. I just wanted to stand there forever with the bag in my hands, sniffing the leather and feeling its soft, subtle texture. Now I'm obsessing over the Happy Satchel, which looked so gorgeous just sitting there I daren't even touch it. Because if I had gotten my sticky little fingers on it, I know I wouldn't have been able to leave the place without the bag! Now it's taken over the spot of The One That Got Away (and will, for some time since I have no real desire to sell a bunch of bags I need to fund the purchase, no matter how gorgeous) and I find myself looking at pictures of the bag all the time.
Having said that, the prices are very reasonable taking the quality. The leather is sublime, even with the clunky chain the bag felt well balanced and the craftsmanship impressed me. I can't see any reason why these bags wouldn't take their place as future modern classics. They are just gorgeous, great quality bags with that cheeky little twist that just gets me.
SO, this is me, sending a big fat apology to Emma and Friends, your bags are just adorable!
