Hi I don't mean to offend but I am used to posting on balenciaga channel or miu threads. They answer within minutes. I know this is a less traveled thread but I put up authentications 2 days ago and asked if the ysl tribute came in gold croc which I think is a fairly simple question..... So far no one has responded. Do you think the ysl thread should recruit a person from bal ot chanel threads to authenticate? With all the recent sample sales and heightened interest in ysl bags I think that it may be valuable to TPF! Thanks for listening! Also with bay listings ending sometimes imp to have reply within 48 hours ....if not minutes:smile:

What you have to realise is that at the end of the day, TPF isn't a commercial authenticating business. The few ladies who help out on the YSL thread are people who specialise in YSL, while yes, there is increasing interest in YSL bags etc. there aren't many who have the necessary knowledge. Bringing someone from the Miu Miu/Bal forum isn't going to help if they don't have any knowledge about YSL. Most of the people who authenticate have been collecting for years.

We're very lucky to have people who are willing to even help others out. Have you looked at the YSL reference threads to see if the bag you are looking at has been posted there? You just have to be patient, and if you're unsatisfied, perhaps educate yourself on aspects of authentic bags to help yourself learn and be better able to judge?

I totally agree with jen_sparro. The authentication threads were created to help tPF members gain a better understanding of authentic YSL bags and any member can post/provide input. This is all done on a voluntary basis; no compensation is received.

YSL came out with the tribute tote for only a few years and then discontinued it. It's not as widely distributed as the muse, downtown, or roady; therefore, more difficult to authenticate because there are less references out there. I wouldn't be able to tell a fake from an authentic tribute if I didn't go through a rigorous search myself a few years ago...

I don't speak for everyone, but I don't respond to an authenticity question if I'm not familiar with the bag. If a lag in response time is an issue, I would recommend you check with MyPouette or other authenticating sites. Hope this helps.

dear NYC, perhaps it is time for explanation for all to see. I will add to previous posts. because We are all doing this as a hobby and no one is bound with any obligation contract here. I visit often other forums which are more live than YSL, yes, some of them have quick responses, some have such skilled authenticators who would say for certain YES or FAKE (like Fendi,, Bal, Miu Miu), they all know their fav brand very well indeed. Some respond on the same day, some do not because of life and also time differences.

We used to have two members 3 years ago who were my icons, helped me authenticate when I started buying online YSL bags, I learned a lot from their comments. However, for various reasons, they are not with us here any more.

When we felt the void, few of us started helping the others with what we knew, bags we had already in our collections were the best comparison indicators, we educated ourselves the best we could and spend out free time for free trying to help each other.

Any request for authentication is not really supposed to be a "request" but rather a question, asking for help not demanding authentication.

To your fairly simple question, no one except for Bubbleoba knew the answer, therefore no one responded until she tuned in. I do not see how would we know the answer to your question at all. We are not related to YSL industry, and if someone does not love that particular bag, that person would not be interested in the types of leather it was made of. It would take me hours to do a research for you, and both of us have the same resources, internet and our as comprehensive as possible reference library to search for models - all the members contribute to the best of our abilities.

I have never expected and never got my question answered within minutes or same day unless authenticators were online by chance, especially with Prada, Mulberry and Miu Miu girls living in Europe, 7-8 hours time difference from me, and many having jobs, full life and enjoying tPF as a hobby.

We are trying to fill as often as possible, but no one is on tPF 24/7, and I am sorry if some sale item goes by because of that.

same with me and responding for unknown to me bag...only if I see multiple posts, I feel a need to explain that the lack of response is the lack of knowledge about the bag. No question is answered skipping the order, but some are easier to answer than others and go first. Some require plenty of research. I did give Miu Miu girls a task once which required an entire week to be resolved.

I understand your frustration. I'm a Bal addict and I know how Bal authentication forum works. But as other posters already said, they do helping other members for their spare time. I'm not an expert at all, but I can spot obvious kind Bal fakes. Whenever I check ebay, I'm very depressed to see ugry fakes all over there. I can't stand seeing all those fakes at all. I really respect all the experts. They have not only excellent expertise, but also strength to see the fakes everyday. Even if I have great expertise to authenticate, I'm not sure if I would do it like the experts.

Fake makers are getting better. It's hard for them to authenticate. When they have doubts, they check all the things carefully and search nessasary information and double, triple check before they reply. They do it because they want other members not stuck with fakes. It's really time, energy and nerve consuming to authenticate something. I know you don't mean to offend anybody here. I just hope you will understand their voluntary dedications to the forum.
