Hermes which color

I will answer you with some questions:

What colours do you typically wear or gravitate towards? It would be good to know this so you can find a bag that complements your wardrobe.

Do you plan to purchase the bag at a boutique or secondhand? I ask this because some of these colours are not available in-store currently.

This selection is rather disparate, so I would try to eliminate at least two or three bags from the list. If you’re purchasing secondhand and like all these colours equally, maybe try to eliminate based on condition of the bag, credibility of the seller, price or other factors. At this point, all we can give you are (mostly baseless) opinions.

From this selection, I think the most versatile would be the Cassis/Raisin looking one, the blue, and the green (maybe Vert Vertigo?). The Orange Poppy is an honourable mention because it’s just so quintessentially Hermès.

If I had to narrow it down further, I would choose between the Cassis/Raisin and the blue, because while I do love the green, I feel like that is more of a trend colour. It may not be so popular in a few seasons.

I’d say Beton is the most neutral color out of the ones you’ve posted about, and hence the easiest to style / wear with everything. Without knowing all the details about you, like your wardrobe / what other bags you have / how you’d style and use the bag etc., Beton is the one I’d recommend in general because of this. I have a bag (not Garden Party though) in Beton and I love it. Some people are afraid of things such as color transfer with a light color like Beton but if you take care I think it will work just fine!

At the end of the day go with the color that you love the most & can see yourself wearing. All the colors you’ve shown are beautiful even though some or the more saturated / colorful ones may not work for me (especially if I want the bag to be an everyday workhorse).

Hey everyone, hope its OK to hijack this threat, rather then opening up a similar one. I would appreciate your advice on the ideal leather color to combine a Birkin with my wardrobe.

I am able to place my wish in 2 weeks and always thought I want a Birkin in noir. Now I have some last minute doubts if a grey like Graphie or Etain might be the better option.

My wardrobe is mainly business casual and sometimes a bit more relaxed /sporty. In terms of colors it is almost exclusively black, grey, white and blue with a view peace’s in green. It’s always warm / natural. Everything’s pretty minimalistic. With a view exceptions, there are no patterns or graphics.

I have a Herbag a dos in Gold which I think goes nicely with everything except black. It is also important to mention, that I assume that this Birkin is going to be the only one I will own. While I love noir, does it limit the possible outfits more then a grey tone?

Other then that, PHW is super important for me and in terms of leather, I would prefer Clemence (assuming that swift is not an option for 35/40).

My best advice is to check what is actually in production before placing an impossible wish. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a (non SO) Clemence Birkin offered. Furthermore, I don’t think Graphite in Clemence (nor Togo) exists currently, and the etain days seem to have waned. I would just wish for a Noir Togo and likely the other near neutrals would be offered to a noir wish when available anyway and decide when the bag is in front of you.

I wear black bags infrequently. I prefer midnight blue or gray. But, I would also mix and match any of these dark neutrals.
Perhaps you could ask your SA for her recommendation as to the best dark neutral for you as she may know your taste and style the best? BTW, in 2008, I thought I would also only have one H KB. Lol. This could simply be the first one :)

Thank you both for your good advise. It sounds like its really important to state where I am flexible, to not make this an impossible wish

Unfortunately, I wont have this appointment with my usual SA, given that this person is to new to Hermes and did not have their KB training yet. But I am sure the leather SA can give good advise anyways, if I describe my wardrobe, like I did here.

@880: I will certainly embrace the changes to my life, that would allow me to think about another B

Have a lovely Sunday
