My SA invited me to a special event at the store for Valentine’s Day. She said it’s a shopping event with champagne and small bites, and she offered me an appointment time. This is my first such invite!

I’ve been going to the boutique for a few years but just started working with her. We are hitting it off well. I have an all-time spend history of about $7500 and most of it at this store.

My goal is to get a Birkin this year but I def have a budget l need to stick within :) is it expected to spend a certain amount at special events like these?

And is it true that a lot of people are offered quota bags at these types of events?

Thank you for any advice!

While it is true that there is never an obligation to spend, there is the expectation that you will be open to shopping at a shopping event. But, it is important never to shop at a level that makes you uncomfortable; never to buy anything that you wouldn’t otherwise buy (without a bag offer). And, only buy what you love; will use; and can afford.

So long as you shop in good faith, if you don’t find something that you adore, that is the luck of the draw. At the events that I have been to, the store is closed to the public and there is sometimes a model in RTW. If it is a resee, the RTW manager will be there and can take note of what you like (no obligation, but I only note items of serious interest). If you are concerned, you can always offer to relinquish the appt if another client has more need of it. But, most likely, your SA simply likes you and thought you would enjoy yourself.

ETA: there will most likely be bag offers for a holiday event, but if you do not get one, not to worry. This is not a race; go at your own pace  If you feel uncomfortable saying no to something you don’t adore, you can say 1) I don’t love it; 2) you have sold me things that I prefer; 3) I would rather buy x than y for the money.

Thank you, I really appreciate this advice!

Just wanted to add one last thing. My SA and SM have told me that Hermes is trying to do more smaller, more intimate events. The idea is to be able to invite more people and develop more relationships. So, if you are invited to x event, you might not be invited to y event. And, some invites are to new clients and based on corporate, not SA nomination. So in the future, if you are ever not invited to something, it’s important not to take it personally

ETA: @Mibaglove, I have no idea as to the correlation of bag offers to special events. I tend to get offers when I least expect them. Perhaps someone else will chime in. But, I would not necessarily take what you read on line from anyone (of course including my own posts) as gospel truth. At best, it’s only one persons experience

Does this have any connection to bag offers at the event? I.e. are events like this less likely to have them?

I’m basically trying to manage my expectations because online there’s a lot of posts about offers at events

Offers are likely but its impossible to know, especially because this is the first event of the year and its unclear how H is feeling financially these days. Best to brace for the worst and keep hopes for the best to a minimum.

Sounds fun! I have been to these types of holiday private shopping events. I have been offered bags at this type of event before, but I have also met and chatted with other clients at these events who were not. Agree with advice above. Don't feel pressure to buy and keep expectations low to avoid disappointment. At the very least, it'll be an enjoyable couple of hours with champagne and treats!

I attended a private shopping watch event late last year. The boutique closed early so that event attendees could shop. I saw several bag offers being extended, at least five during the two hours that I was in the boutique. I did not receive an offer and I purchased a watch and some RTW.

Enjoy the special event. Everyone’s experience has been different. I have attended several special events at my local store. The majority of the events have included a bag offer when I spend over 10-15k at the event. I attended an event in December and told my SA from the onset I did not want a bag. Based on my experience, offers at special events are correlated to your prespend, relationship with SA or SM who invited you, and spending at event. My friend has gone to special events at my same location, has purchased items as well, and has not received a quota bag offer. It is difficult to opine without creating an expectation for you.

I would go in without expectation and be happily surprised. Best of luck and enjoy the private event. Those are always great- irrespective of bag offer or not. ❤️

I have been to several special events and never gotten a bag offer at an event (nor have I seen bag offers at said events - I’m sure they were happening I just didn’t see any). I think this really depends on your location and the way the SM likes to do things. I know it is odd because we are so used to corporate structures that favor cookie cutter business practices - you should think of each Hermes store like a little fiefdom - the SM have a lot of power to do things their own way. I think some are more into special events and the “magic” of surprise and some a little more stiff upper lip vibe.

IMO if you accept an invite you are expected to spend - but I agree with @880 - if there’s nothing you love you are not obligated to buy something you don’t like. It maybe seems a little tricky but I think you can be fairly upfront with your SA about this.

Sharing an update!

The event was fun - the champagne was nice; not much food but 🤷‍♀️

I purchased some items I really love - some fashion jewelry, a belt, and a pair of heels.

At the end, I asked if there were any Birkins in stock, and my SA said unfortunately no. She went to ring up my items and came back to ask if I was only interested in Birkins and if I’d like to see a mini Evelyn in étoupe - I said YES! She brought it out and I loved it and bought it.

It was a really nice experience!

I have a friend based in Texas and she mentioned she got invited to a Valentine's Day event.
She was not exactly sure what it entails - her SA mentioned they will showcase new stock.
