Hermes scarf for an interview?

mmm I agree with Luvbolide - I am a VP at a large US investment bank and recently had an interview. I usually wear my H scarves at work in an ascot knot but for the interview I left him (my scarves all have names!!) at home. I was being interviewed by a woman and I was concerned that an H scarf might be a bit too much - maybe it is my paranoia but I have had a few snarky comments from workmates about my scarf. BTW this is in London and I would definitely say that H scarf for a tech company might not be appropriate at any time unless you are in management/finance that sort of thing

Other members made a good point: work environment varies so much, so does appropriate attire for interview.

It was surprising to me that there is a place H scarf is off.
I only know about academic and medical specialists' society for work. And there, good quality is well appreciated, but not flashy, too decorative, or showy attire.

I have worn Chanel pants suits or other haute-couture knee length skirt suits for interview, in conservative color and design, but no corsage, no big accessories, no brand logo items. Majority of others, mainly male candidates, wore dark colored suits with a tie, looking as same as the next guy, though. The results of my interviews have been very successful, but don't know it's because of my quality attire... lol!

OP could add more info what she knows about the interviewer, or even post some pics she in considering to wear?

I have to agree with Maxiscot on this- I would not wear an Hermes scarf to an interview for a job I was seriously considering. If you are interviewing for information, perhaps, but even then, you need to be careful. You do not want your wardrobe to walk in the door before you or shout I am a fashion hound. Understated career attire is really a better idea- no distractions- the focus should be on selling yourself and qualifications. Wait until after you get the job to wear your scarves and khakis.

I wore a Hermes scarf to a job interview. Got the job and on the first day, one of the panel asked where I had got my scarf as she remembered me in the interview wearing a "gorgeous scarf" but didn't feel it was appropriate to ask at that time!

If you don't normally wear a scarf then don't wear one as youll end up fiddling with it.

Good luck!

Agreed. To me, outfit and scarves are to enhance my hue and impression, not vise versa.
As Coco Chanel said, "Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman."

I've heard stories of potential candidates (at tech companies) not even making to the actual interview b/c they were overdressed. Check out the culture of the organization and take it up a notch.

Very true advice

You took the words right out of my mouth and read my mind, toujours chic...Great advice IMO

There are a plenty of Hermes scarfs that do not shout Hermes upon attention.

As an interviewer, I am always on the lookout more on the candidate's wit and intelligence in answering questions, the way she talks and carry herself. Dressing well is equally important in my industry and rather than the logos/designer brands, a well-dressed candidate who has her own sense of style gives me more curiosity on who she is in terms of creativity and contribution of ideas to the well-being and success of company.
