Me! I was thinking about getting a C jumbo flap, but I changed my mind and got my self a Lindy instead, I'm glad I did... Truth is I didn't "leave" Chanel, as I was never there anyway. I'm an H girl through and through.

Just want to point out this is the Hermes forum so I doubt you will get many different opinions on the subject, most H fans are very dedicated!

Yes!!! Well I am not totally leaving Chanel just since the price increase i think Hermes is more worth it; so I might get away with one more chanel flap and save for the big H xD

Chanel and Hermes are 2 different things, but i am sure once you get either one of them, you definitely can't go back :) haha! I used to have a lot of Chanel, but now I am completely in love with Hermes. not everyone is carrying a H on the street you know? and only H people know their thing and I like that :)

swisshera, I totally feel the same way :) I hate to say this but too many people are carrying Chanel

Welcome to Le Monde d'Hermes!! :welcome2:

swisshera - you are right!! Once you start, there is no going back!

I wish you all many MANY happy purchases!! Keep us posted - we'd love to hear about them!

I'm afraid I don't own handbags by either at the moment - but Chanel is my first love for costume jewellery and rtw. I'm not terribly keen on their handbags as I don't like quilting, its just too 80s for me but I loved the collection they had a few years back, of the cassette taps and boomboxes as handbags.
I love the Hermes Birkins and Kellys and the incredible scarves, but one thing that would put me off the brand is how much they appear to play games with their customers - I don't really like the way there doesn't seem to be a consistent buying policy. The Chanel bags seem much more inclusive, which is maybe something to do with Coco Chanel's upbringing. Everyone - if they save, if they can afford it - can have a Chanel bag, and I don't regard that as a bad thing.
That said, I still don't like the look of the Chanel bags, and so Hermes all the way.

To me, both brands are very different in its own way. It's like comparing apples to oranges. It's really a personal preference. However, I must say that once you go Hermes, you can't go back. I haven't bought any other brands since I bought my first H bag. I find myself just keep building on my H collection, venturing into other areas, like scarves (oh, it's sooo addicting), jewelry, and so forth.

I recently had my eye on a new Chanel flap. It was beautiful. Lamb with some beautiful flower petal detailing. I was thinking (what was I thinking!!) about buying it, but a 40 year old Black Box Kelly came up for the same price and it was a far better deal. It looked as good as the brand new flap. Well, it will after it's trip to the spa. And, I don't believe anything about the price increase until I actually see it for real. It's a lot of money, plus a good deal of nerve if they place such a premium on handbags and such. I know that Chanel had a healthy (for them) increase in the winter around the holidays.

Okay, here's my thinking on the topic at hand...

I have/had a good collection of Chanel. Also, two iconic bags on order. The bags on order have been cancelled. The iconic bags were gorgeous reissues that went back to the stores. These bags were all disposed to fund my new Hermes collection.
I think that Chanel is allegedly very greedy. I can buy a 40 year old bag that is holding up better than I am, for the same price of a bag that I can only use once or twice a year. The thing about Chanel is they are pretty, beautiful even, because of their colors, but they really don't wander far from their iconic designs unless they make them something just plain ugly that winds up in the outlet.

Hermes isn't for everybody. People may not get the simplicity of a bag that has no embellishment on it, save for a turn-key and a lock. H's bags are deceptively simple to look at. Some people want the flash and sparkle of some C bags. You probably won't find that in the H boutique. You will find handbags that are so beautifully made that just thinking about their structure makes you want to know how they build the bag inside out. There are less pricey bags than Birkins and Kellys all beautiful on their own.

I never thought that I would buy a pre-owned H bag, but I did, knowing it would go to the spa and come back in almost new condition. $3400 is a lot of $$ for a new bag let alone a used bag. I never thought my one H bag would become a collection in the space of three years.

Literally you are comparing apples to oranges here.

Good luck and do all the research you can. Go to the library and read up on the history of the house of Chanel and Hermes and also Louis Vuitton. Fascinating reading.

I was thinking back and forth about buying chanel maxi in the end i did not and even my husband though the price of it even before the increase is too much for what it is. He told me to put this money towards a kelly or medor clutch i wanted. to me the quality of chanel and hermes can't be compared. I currently own both chanel and hermes . I love both of my collections. i am happy that i had a chance to buy them when i did but regret not getting a maxi before prices went up in the winter. New chanel prices are not justifiable. I would rather spend it on hermes.

I have two Chanel bags.....a reissue and a WOC. That's all I feel I need. Everything else is Hermes and I'm very happy with the two brands although I don't care much for Hermes RTW or shoes.

I continue to see Hermes handbags that I love but very few Chanel these days.....

I have Hermes watch and one chanel bag. The watch is amazing and the purse looks great, but is too small for my life. The chanel purse is the normal size, but in this day in age with Iphones and oversigned sunglasses, the chanel does not work for me. Sadly, I barely ever wear it. I am dying to get an orange Hermes bag!

personallay while h is my number one i never limit myself solely to one house- on one hand h does not make bags for all my needs and secondly i need variety for different situations/locations in my life and if find an item that i love and whose quality etc is up to my standards i will buy it regarless if it is brand x or y ,totallly unknown or no brand at all

so i say buy what you truly love if that is H fine if it is chanel perfect . but i would never give up a brand i love just because another brand is suppsedly better quality or due to a brand moving up in price and coming close towards another label that may or may not be regarded as "better value"

again only my humble opinion. whatever you decide or buy i hope you enjoy any purchase and may it bring joy to you for years to come
