Dear Fellow Australians,

Probably not many of you have the same issue, but an average person living and being a designer fiend in Australia is really like climbing one's own tallest peak. It is not difficult but it is tedious and costly (as with travel from Australia to anywhere), very costly.

I was wondering if anyone care to share their experiences going the Hermes reseller route here in Australia. I know that Oz is already considered fairly generous with setting the taxable amount of AUD$1000 for imports, but as many know, if you wish to get a resale Hermes, that 1 grand is nothing.

I love a good bargain, and esp if it is a Hermes, but most exist overseas and really after the duties and taxes, we might as well get a brand new one. I have been looking for a Lindy 34 in Clemence leather for a long time but to get one sent, the duties and taxes are a trip to the US itself (Ok, to be fair, just economy air tic during off peak season).

Does anyone have any experience with buying a Hermes of at least USD$5000++ and having it shipped down; and how much it all eventually cost you? And if you are Joan of Arc and managed to not pay the duties and taxes, can you share your experience on how you take this leap of faith and endure the possibility of a-lost-in-transit-and-your-$$$$$-up-in-smoke scenario? (I am not talking about a Birkin here, for a Birkin, of course it would be silly not to pay that tax.)

I know eventually I will have to either suck it up and pay the taxes or buy one in the boutique here. But if anyone has the experience through international (or even local) resale route, please share! I will be eternally grateful!

Be good this sale season........cuz I haven't!

A lot of the time you can request that the seller puts that the item is worth less than the amount you have to pay duty on.
I have done this sending things to new zealand for a buyer who bought two LV suits from me, I just put it down as being worth $100, and he didn't have to pay any extra duties or taxes. So it is possible.

I have never personally bought anything on the reseller route as I am way too nervous and would need a positive guarantee that it was authentic from sending to Hermes Spa before I would calm down. Hopefully someone with experience here can help with the reseller info.

You should never underdeclare for your own safety - if you do and the package is lost, then even though it's insured, you'll only get reimbursed for the amount you declared it for.

Yesterday, I went in to Melb to get some info, and they had a Black Togo 30B GHW that a client had passed on. They offered it to me but I passed. You should definitely give them a call as this was around closing time.

It's only been the second time i've been into the store. The first time, just as a walk-in, they had a gold B that another client had passed on. That one went home with me.

good luck.

Thank you Wekilledcouture, Ilia, and sereniti for your responses. I truly, truly appreciate it.

After corresponding with a few resellers (not very nice experiences), and doing some research, I have now decided to NOT go with reseller route. I mean I will if I am physically in the US, but since I am not, there is no point and if I want Hermes, I might as well just suck it up and pay.

Thanks again Ladies, you have been nothing but generous with your time.

Wow, some people would faint for that opportunity!
