Hermes Kelly Togo

I just received my first Kelly in retourne Togo (black and gold).

I have never owned a retourne- Is it normal to be not as smooth? It feels a little dry if that makes sense? Is that just how it is with use?

Where is it from? "Not as smooth" as what (what are you comparing it to)? Could you post pics?

Smoothness and dryness wouldn’t seem to be related to a Kelly being retourné - more to the leather type. Have you owned a Togo bag before? It’s a grained leather.

Pictures would definitely help clarify the question here

It’s beautiful, congrats on such a classic! Did your husband get it directly from an H store or at a consignment place? I ask as leathers from different years can have a totally different hand feel. My 2015 togo B30 is much “dryer” to the touch compared to my 2020 B25. (Not just bc it’s older either as I had my B30 spa’d at H in 2020.)

based from the first post what she probably meant was if it was defective or not, if it's "normal" to be feeling dry

it is normal, I think I know what you mean by the togo leather feeling "dry"
it is a matte leather and does not have any sheen when new, it will ease up with use over time .

Seeing the photos, it's a lovely bag. @azukitea is right, Togo is quite matte and if you are used to, say, chèvre, it might seem a bit dry. You can always condition it (LATER lol, give it time) to add a bit of moisture. Enjoy a forever classic!
