Hi ladies! I am trying to decide between the Hermes bolide in 35 or 37 vs The Row Margaux 15. Has anyone had experiences with both of those bags ? Which would you recommend ? This would be a tote for daytime/work

What an interesting question! I see why you compare the two. I adore my Bolide, and I adore The Row RTW - my go-to - but personally I feel The Row bag design lags a bit (although it’s improving with every season). The Margaux is a beautiful bag but at that size the lack of shoulder strap is a deal breaker for me. If you want it for work, and need to carry a laptop, I wonder whether either bag is really the right solution? JM2C

Thank you! My logic is that the Margaux was a little ‘younger’ than the bolide (I’m early 30s), but I wasn’t sure how the craftsmanship compared. One thing that bugged me with the soft Margaux is how the outline of everything you are carrying with you in the bag pokes through because the leather is so thin. I don’t carry a laptop :)

Margaux is an open top tote with a toggle close. No strap. Most are cloth lined (the Margaux Air are all cloth lined). There are a couple different variations (the belt around, the side belt, etc., suede and/or leather) so the thinness of the leather will also vary.

Bolide is a zipper top with strap. Leather lined (at least mine is).

Both are lovely bags but when carried they are a very different feel and look. Have you tried both on?

Yes! How would you describe the look and feel of each? I can’t decide

I also am drawn to the Margaux (I have tried on but never purchased). I also love my Bolides.

Nothing beats H in terms of quality and if you're looking for the 35 it's going to be resale, where the price of even a mint bag is about the same as a new Margaux. If resale value is a consideration, again H wins. I guess it comes down to the style differences.

I personally need a strap option so that has kept me from buying. And it also depends on how you feel about a zipper, which can be a tad problematic if you have a habit like I do of stuffing a scarf into one's bag.

If I didn't need a strap I would definitely add a Margaux to my collection.

Honestly I think the Margaux is more like a Birkin than a Bolide. As @bagnut1 says, it's better for stuffing things into. But like a Birkin it will get heavy dragging it around on your arm all the time. (NAP says the Margaux weighs 4.5 pounds?! I find that hard to believe as the all leather Bolide doesn't even weigh that much.)

The Bolide is not really a tote, it's a closed top handle bag that holds a lot. The 35/37 IS big for a shoulder bag but at least it can be worn on the shoulder. You would probably alternate handle and shoulder.

I'd say the Margaux is more "work bag" looking although both bags can transition to regular day bags.

I'd buy a Margaux if I didn't already have Birkins and Garden Partys. I love the GP (my go to work bag for middle-of-the-radar) but the Margaux is dressier, in a nice way.
