after writing my letters of recommendation for the private universities i am applying to, i'd like to buy my the teachers gifts from the one and only Hermès.

i feel that it is too much for a 17 year old to give $100 or so, so im asking a few of my friends if we'd split the cost.

i was thinking twillies.
but besides that, perfume, and soaps/ cosmetics, what else is available.

thanks

Oh, that's very nice of you.

Under 125 may be a little difficult I think... Have a look at this thread (the budget there was 200 but it may give you some more ideas)

http://forum.purseblog.com/hermes/what-to-get-for-present-380225.html

There are some mugs at $110 (some at 140 and 150); you can see examples at H website:

I'd be careful with the perfume... it's a rather personal choice.

Good luck with your applications. Such exciting years ahead of you!

oooo coffee/tea mug! hahaha sophisticated teacher in the lounge
dont worry- im perfume expert hahaha that's my second choice.
im still thinking about twill/pocket/mini losange.

but hey a cheezy gift is scented liners and soap - the teacher i have in mind is very maison chic....so....she'll probably like that too.

thanks for the link le monde, vous êtes mon monde!

Your heart is in the right place, but having been married to an independent school math teacher, I can tell you that your gift of anything of Hermes will be wasted. Most teachers will have no idea what it even is,and any that do will feel such a gift from you to be inappropriate.

Teachers ADORE gift certificates to book stores and small baskets of specialty food items - WAY more appropriate.

I agree with India, I'm sure you want to do something very special but would they have any idea what it is your giving them? I doubt it. They would probably think it's a mug is all. A gift certificate would be a better choice, or if you really want to give them an actual present I'm sure you can find something in that price range at Coach and they would know what that is.

i forgot to mention.
she's my FRENCH teacher of 4 years.
i was one of her first students since she transferred to my school from another.
we are very close - we even text each other - she's my mom at school.
quite elegant lady - knowledgeable of such things.

but then again...it'll be lighter on my teenage wallet if i bought cute stuff at coach like the fox key chain or a trousse. :supacool:

yeah not your ordinary school teacher

If she's French (from France, not Canadian), she'll appreciate Hermes. Otherwise, probably not.

I have a teacher like this and:yes:she will totally appreciate your gift!! How thoughtful are you? I can't wait to see what you get her!!

This is a tricky area. If she's Parisian French, she certainly will know Hermes. But teachers live on a limited income (which I know ALL too well!) and can sometimes have trouble with the conspicuous affluence of their students. We ran a dorm in a New England boarding school for 10 years and ate with the faculty in the dining hall 6 nights a week - I heard the conversations, and they found expensive gifts quite off-putting and frankly, resented them.

On the other hand, when we lived in LA, I was stunned at the presents families gave teachers - the use of their house in Tahoe or Palm Springs, huge gift certificates to expensive restaurants!!! And there the teachers seemed to expect this - especially if they had been asked for recommendations for college or upper schools in the area! Being a New Englander, my husband was horrified by some of the gifts he received, and actually returned a few with a nice note thanking them for their kindness but saying that he would prefer a donation made to the school if they insisted on doing something so generous.

You will have to use your own judgement on this one, but do be careful - sometimes people feel awkward receiving presents of a level they could not themselves reciprocate.

interesting perspective.
i dont care if i give her a batch of macarons that i've made or an elixir des merveilles box set - i love her - she's my favorite.
