Long-time lurker here with a general Hermes shopping question. I just bought my first Hermes bag this past weekend, and noticed that all four of the bags that my friend and I looked at had notes on the boxes saying “Hold for so-and-so until Sept.-something”. They sold me one of these bags and I am curious what the hold notes were all about. Does this always happen? Were they actually holding these bags for other customers, or do they put fakes notes on everything so they seem more coveted? The SA told me that my bag had just come in within the last couple of days and the box had not even been opened yet, and the note on that one had a hold date of mid-September on it.
I got a black leather Garden Party by the way, and a Twilly to tie on the handle (not sure of the pattern name). I am only on day two of carrying it but I love it! Thanks for all of your smarts – I read all of the related posts here before purchasing.
Thanks!

Most items in my store are tagged with a hold note, and usually have more than 1 name on the list.

I'm not surprised that the bag had someone else's name on it... they probably released it to you after the other customer decided they didn't want it (happens a lot).

Isobelle, Hermes does, indeed, hold purses for customers. I suspect sometimes a customer in the hand is more valuable than a customer waiting. :amuse: They often know what's coming in and someone may have had your bag on their "wish list," and that's how it came to be marked "hold for xxxx."

It sounds as though it was your lucky day! Enjoy your new Garden Party!

Thank you both, I appreciate the responses! I was surprised to see holds on the GPs, since I know they are not among the most popular and hard-to-find bags, but what you both said makes sense. I didn’t want to bother the SA with too many questions after she brought out more than a dozen Twillys for me to look at so I could pick the best pattern placement.

Did you go to the lovely Virginia Store across from Tysons?
My guess is as CG said, maybe someone had it on their wish list and the SA was reminding herself/himself to show it to a customer.
The GP is a super functional and easy to wear style. LOVE IT, last time I was in NYC saw lots of ladies rushing about Madison Ave
doing their errands and day-shopping with Hermes GPs on their arms.
CONGRATS!
(BTW the GP is black is not the easiest to find, surprisingly~you did good!)

I did go to the store across from Tyson’s, and had a lovely experience – so many pretty things to look at (they had a gorgeous red Kelly) and my SA was very nice.

I didn’t realize the black GP was not easy to find. I have been watching it pop on and off the Hermes website for the last month or so, but I figured anything that they put on the web site was probably something they would have well stocked.

Thanks : )

Congrats on your new bag! I know my store has a wish list with people's names next to items the SD ordered for the store. If the people on the list don't want it, it is sold.

Yes, it can happen. Sometimes those are just notes the SAs write to reserve a particular item to recommend to their customer. It's not necessarily spoken for by the customer. I see it more often with scarves as I'm more of a scarf girl.

If you're Danielle Steele with 6,000 pairs of Louboutins, I'm sure the S.A.'s here would hold a Birkin or a dozen for her and her tres chic daughters, hotties all.......
