Hermes 35 Box or Constance 23

Hello ladies, I’m vintage shopping in Japan!

For reference I am 1.7m. Deciding between a Birkin 35 GHW C square stamp in Dark blue or Constance 23 GHW T circle in red. The Constance 23 had a small part of it re-stitched: any idea if it will be still accepted back by Hermes.

Prices are US 4185 for the Constance and US $5725 for the B35

PS: I bought that Kelly 28 blue that is in the photo with the B35z

I agree. The Birkin is beautiful. I don't like the restitching on the bag. Further, this weakens the leather and the leather could tear over time. It could even be torn now and the stitches disguise this. Finally, the leather looks dry on the Constance and I don't like the big scratch on the front.

I also love the navy kelly--good choice! Wear it well.

I wouldn't touch that Constance. It's been repaired by someone that did not look qualified to repair it and Hermes will not touch it. The Birkin appears to be in good shape.

Hi sorry for the delay. I didn’t notice the replies and I was busy shopping the new year sales. The birkin 35 is like new, but I was worried about maintaining it since box scratches so easily. Will reply again with more details soon.

To all who asked which store! Ippukishi for the navy Box Birkin and Ginzo for the Constance.

So I got the Kelly 28 in navy next to the Box Birkin.

To those recommending the Box Birkin 35 - why? Is it that cheap, or is it because it’s rare. What’s the market value of it. Care wise, Box is just quite hard to take care of and the bag is quite a big size which means the likelihood of it getting damaged is higher than the Kelly 28.

Quite the contrary! Box is super sturdy, and refurbish well. There’s a reason why you see so many vintage boxes floating around! And yes, true, bigger size will get banged around easier. But I used to use the 40 birkin as a diaper bag back in the days, and yep, it was a box Birkin too.

As for the market value, did you mean retail? Box is more expensive than Togo or Clemence, and much harder to get in the stores. If you mean buying from resellers, I don’t know for sure, but considering the box Birkin is 50% less than the current retail, I would say it’s a darn good deal! Where I am, I would never, ever, find a deal like that!

I say go for it. Whole heartedly!

Box leather scratches easily and it’s looks ugly easily compared to the other leathers which are scratch resistant.

In Asia - in Singapore or HK and possibly japan. Box is seen as second class compared to Togo or epsom. And birkin 35 is not popular compared to the smaller sizes. It’s vintage, stamp C - that’s why the price is so low. It’s not unusual to find such prices.

Ah then in your case just buy whatever you like, and don’t think about the price. If you think box is ugly (I disagree btw), then the answer should be simple for you. Go with whatever makes your heart sing!
