Ran into a dilemna yesterday.....

I have always wanted to buy a second ering, something big but not as good quality just for a change..and the wow factor.

my original is a 1.3 carat RB I colour vvs2 with a channel set band from Tiffany. fab ring and my husband spent 25K at the time...that was 8 years ago.

while we were shopping yesterday, i came across a 153 carat g color s1 stone in a halo split shank setting. Great colour so looked gorgous...

salesman wanted to make one last sale by the end of the night, so he droped the price from 13K to 7K tax in.... should we have bought...is that a good price?

It depends on how eye clean it was but according to prices for similar stones on bluenile, 7k is a pretty good price. (Bluenile prices range from 10-13k depending on cut grade)

Im not really sure if that's a good price or not as Im no expert! Have you thought of adding a halo to your stone for the "wow" factor? I bet it would look great and cost less than 7K..I think several posters on this forum have done that..then you could use the rest to buy something else nice like a gorgeous pendant or something! Just a thought...

Well it's hard to say without knowing the cut or if the diamond was certified. If you say it was pretty, thats good. The price was probably fine given the setting you described. There is NO way I would pay 13k though unless the diamond was GIA or AGS certified and you knew the cut fell in a good range.
Pictures?

I would not spend that amount of money to just get a 0.23 pt upgrade.......I would spend more and get a larger diamond if you really wanted a WOW factor. Your current diamond sounds beautiful.

(Remember that salesman is still making a profit for the store, albeit maybe a smaller one, but they are not giving it away which says something to me about the cut, etc.)

the cut and colour are good so the si doesn't make such a different...

the size looks way bigger then my current though because of the halo....its just a secondary ring...looks big and shiny....my current is still a beautiful but i'm bored

for 7000K tax in...sounds like a deal

Sounds like a good deal to me. If you are okay with the cut and clarity (I am unsure as to whether the diamond is certified or not) and if you are okay with the certificates, then go ahead and buy it. I know from 1.3-1.53 is not a size huge difference, but since you said the diamond is in a halo, it probably looks like 2+ carats. It's your ring and if you know you are going to get a lot of wear and love out of it, then go for it! Seems like you really want it ;)

Since this is a 2nd ring, and not an upgrade, if you like it, it's worth it. 7K for a halo'd setting AND the center stone is not too bad but the price sounds like they were either desperate to sell, or there's something he's not telling you. You can buy it if they'll let you return it if it doesn't appraise well.
