Hi ladies,

Thank you for reading my post. I have been doing some research through the forum regarding possible Xmas presents for my GF. However, the more I read about different "models" of Chanel bags, the more baffled I have become.

I am asking the TPFers to kindly assist me in finding the right bag for my lady because I know the popular bags with particular colour, material and hardware are very hard to come by.

She has expressed interest in the black Maxi lamb skin (pic 1) but preferable in the matt finish (pic 2). I am just wondering what model no. will I have quote to the SA to order it in? Will a budget of $7k AUD be enough? In additon to this bag, are there any recommedations for a petite 24 year old that likes to dress casual for Uni most days? Will there also be a Maxi in the 2010 Cruise collection? Is lambskin more popular than calfskin? Is gold hardware better than silver?

Thank you in advance.

From a confused boyfriend.

I wish I could answer your Qs - but other than the price & model # - it's pretty preference oriented - but, generally calfskin is slightly more durable than lamb & silver tends to be considered more casual.

How about a 228 size matte black re-issue w/ silver hardware?

Oh & - what an amazing gift btw! Could you have a talk w/ my husband? LOL

I think the jumbo would fit her well. The pic you posted is of a jumbo and not a maxi. The maxi is larger, but since you say she is petite, i think the jumbo would be best for her with silver hardware since she dresses most days casual. Good luck!

I would recomand you classic jumbo in caviar skin (like one you post in the right photo). Its good size for everiday use and caviar skin is more durrable then lamb skin. And most important its classic beauty and always trendy!
You are sweetest boyfriend nd your GF is one lucky girl!
P.S. Price of the jumbo classic is 2000 euros in Europe.

tonster, I am going to answer your questions as best as I can and in return, you need to have a talk with my S/O as well. LOL!

The 'matt finish' your GF is referring to seems to be caviar leather. The smooth leather is lambskin. Caviar (pressed calfskin) is generally more durable than lambskin and is better suited as an everyday bag, unless your GF is willing to baby her purse. If you let the SA know that you are looking for a 'black maxi in caviar leather', s/he will probably know what you are talking about. Make sure to mention that you are looking for the classic flap and not the reissue; the classic flap is the one with the CC turn lock, while the reissue is the one with the mademoiselle lock (the rectangularish one - See http://forum.purseblog.com/chanel-reference-library/reference-2-55-vs-classic-flaps-407757.html). The ones in your pictures are classic flaps. Both classic and reissue flaps come in various sizes.

Since your GF prefers to dress casually, I'd suggest the black caviar jumbo with silver hardware- I find the maxi a bit too large and bulky, although if your GF has expressed interest in the maxi, then go for the black caviar maxi with silver hardware. The photo that you have posted seems to be the jumbo instead though. The different sizes and corresponding style codes can be found here: http://forum.purseblog.com/chanel-r...mensions-of-the-timeless-classics-485001.html

Silver hardware tends to look better against caviar leather IMO; gold hardware can definitely be dressy. Black bags tend to be part of the permanent collection and as such will always be available. Different boutiques may however be temporarily out of stock of the particular bag you're looking for, so I'd strongly suggest calling the boutique in advance to inquire about their inventory- and to ask about the price. An estimate of the current prices can be found here: http://forum.purseblog.com/chanel-s...prices-no-chatting-428832-8.html#post11873608 HTH! You're such a great S/O- remember to speak to mine!
