Hey everyone! I am hoping someone who owns the small Tiffany diamond cross in platinum can help me with this. I got this from Fashionphile and I noticed that at the top of the cross where the chain runs through it there are grooves. I am not sure if it’s for the chain to run through or if it is excessive wear. It looks to be in good condition otherwise except the spring ring is a little loose where it clasps. I have attached a picture. Thanks!B7505D84-E96B-40C6-BCA5-7AE2FB78C647.jpeg

Hi! I have this necklace. I checked mine, and it is smooth where the chain runs through...no grooves. It looks like whoever owned this necklace before must have played with their necklace a lot by running the pendant along the chain. That would explain why there are grooves in the metal. Maybe you could take it in for service at Tiffanys and see if they could add more platinum to that area and also get the spring ring clasp replaced.

I would careful and ensure this is authentic. There is no way rubbing could cause these grooves. Even if you ran the chain back and forth a billion times to wear out the metal, the lines would be soft, as in worn, rubbed.

These groove liens are sharp, cut by a machine. You can see how sharp the down points are. Also, the center groove is far too symmetrical. Definitely machine made. This may be a new Tiffany design, but I would get it authenticated.

Structurallly, it also makes no sense why there would be grooves there. The point is to make it smooth for the chain.

Thanks for the reply. I sent it back and have since purchased another one that appears to be an older version. It is Actually heavier and seems to be made better than the one I pictured. I don’t think their quality is what it used to be.

I think the first one you purchased was a fake. It was lighter in weight as it was probably just white gold versus a real one which is platinum. Platinum is 34% heavier than 18kt gold. I'm glad you returned it. Good luck to you!
