Hello,

Soon I would like to ask my wonderful gf to marry me and I want to find the perfect ring for her.

It will be a Tiffany's classic solitaire, in the 1 to 1.1 carat range and I am wondering if you can help me on the specs I am looking at.

In my price range I have 2 options I am looking at and wondering your advice.

Option 1: I color, VS2

Option 2: H color, SI1

They will be around the same size and price...ideally I will see if my SA can bring in both of them and I'll choose the nicest looking stone but just wondering if the price is the same/similiar , which one of the options would be your preference?

Thanks for the help!

I would say I VS2 without knowing any other information.

But the most important C is the cut grade, which is one of the most important grades that determines the sparkle factor. Most people who know about diamonds wouldn't settle for anything less than an "excellent" cut grade.

However, at Tiffany's, they probably wouldn't sell anything lower than that, and they also probably wouldn't get an SI1 stone that wasn't eye clean either, you would probably be safe with both and no one would probably be able to give you a real answer without seeing the stones in person.

I think out of these stones... just get the bigger one or the cheaper one depending on your preference!!

3 of the rings I will be looking at:

1.10 carat, H color and SI1 clarity
Depth 62.6%, Table 54%, Crown Height 16.2%, Crown Angle 35.2%, Pavilion 42.7%
Excellent Brilliant, Excellent symmetry, Excellent polish.
The ring will be here tomorrow.

1.10 carat, IVS2,
D 61.5%, T 57%, CH 15.1%, CA 34.8%, P 40.7%
Excellent Brilliant, Excellent symmetry, Excellent polish.
Waiting for the ring from our production.

1.02 carat, IVS2,
D 62.4%, T 56%, CH 15.7%, CA 35.4%, P 43.2%.
Excellent Brilliant, Excellent symmetry, Excellent polish.
Still in production.

Can you help a bit with these numbers? When using HCA the middle ring says do not buy with that Pavilion % but are you sure that 40.7 is % and not angle? But it makes no sense for her to give me angle on the middle ring and % on the other 2 for Pavilion does it? I'm confused...would Tiffany sell a ring with Pavillion of 40.7%?

You posted this on PS right? The 40.7 is the angle, not the percent. My guess is that some of these are GIA graded and the rest are Tiffany graded, and they might identify things differently on their reports, which is why the one has an angle and not a percent.

Just for the record: Just because it's from Tiffany's doesn't automatically mean ideal cut or highest quality. They just market themselves that way. They can sell a dud. Further, if they don't buy a pre-graded GIA stone, they grade it themselves, and can make up whatever specs they want.

Yes I did. well that is why I am posting the numbers and trying to find the best cut diamond I can. I know a Tiffany diamond does not automatically mean the best but I want a Tiffany diamond and I want the best one I can find.

I get that. You asked why Tiffany/the SA would note something differently, and I gave you my thoughts--that they graded either the first and third and not the second or GIA did, and the 2nd was the Tiffany graded one. There's tons of reasons why it could be noted as angle and not percentage.

Of the three you listed I would go with the middle. I believe that's also the one that DS said on PS. And I believe JP posted a great explanation. But you need to see these in person, all three side by side if you want a true comparison, and see which one speaks to you. Look at it in their crazy lighting, and then away from their crazy lighting. That's the only way you're going to get the one you love.

I'd like diameter measurements also--either here or there.

ETA: Are you sure 6.6x6.3? That's a big difference.
