I have just had my beautiful Fowler bag delivered, its 2003 and just perfect in every way, goes with my bag accessories etc- apart from the strap length. it's too close to my armpit and is fixed. I've only had this a couple of days and but am already feeling it's too cramped and I have to slide it past the crook of my arm and try to hook it/get it to stay on my shoulder. I know, I know, I should have anticipated that problem.

The length, rather annoyingly, is too long as a top handle carry bag. So ... I'm thinking of removing the strap and adding a plain navy one (can't find a vachetta strap with silver hardware). Am I mad (paid £500 gbp), would i regret it? Would a replacement strap throw the whole look off? I've tried adding a chain strap but the square strap rings are thick and the strap doesn't swivel so it kind of stands up and in the way.

Any ideas or experiences of modifying? It seems stupid as it's just so gorgeous.IMG_20211112_160331603.jpg

You can try removing the original hardware and replacing with a silver "D" ring. I use small tools that come with an eyeglass repair kit (mini screw driver). Measure the width of the screw bar area and find a similar size match for the hardware. Once you attach the new hardware your strap options will be endless !!

Here's an example of the hardware that may fit. So many choices on amazon or etsy. Good luck !!
