I'm getting myself this as a graduation present and to kick off my new job :) Here are the watches I'm considering:

(a) Cartier Tank Solo SS (either in small or large) with leather strap
(b) Cartier Tank Solo SS (either in small or large) with SS strap
(c) Cartier Tank Francaise SS (in medium) with SS strap (this option is a pre-owned in mint condition from a trusted dealership, so it puts it in the similar price range as the other two options)

All thoughts, suggestions and comments welcome! I'm hoping to buy this in time for my birthday so I'm definitely keen to narrow this down soon.

A couple of things I am concerned about:

(1) I want to be able to wear it as an everyday watch for the next 10 years, so I'm looking for something classic and can stand the test of time. Not sure if the large Tank Solo will look irrelevant after large watch faces are less trendy?

(2) At the same time, however, I'm also wary of wearing conspicuously dressy pieces that might possibly make my colleagues / superior uncomfortable - as a junior employee, I feel like it's best not to out-dress my senior colleagues and boss. This in particular applies to the Francaise.

(3) As an 'everyday' watch - I'd like to be able to wear this on both weekdays and weekends, with anything and everything. I only wear a small pair of white gold halo diamond earrings daily, with no other jewellery on my wrists; not considering a two-toned or gold option because my skin tone takes badly to gold (sadly ._.)

(4) I'm still in my early 20's, so I'm also hoping to avoid the situation where the watch 'ages' me. (Seems to be a problem that my East Asian girlfriends and I face)

Tank Francaise- absolute classic.

It's one of those chameleon watches where it's casual enough for everyday but dressy enough for evenings.

As I'm almost twice your age (almost). I looked at the TF when I was your age. I didn't purchase it as a girl I worked with had one and I disliked her soooo much. I purchased the Panthere instead. Now, at my age, it is still a great watch.

I've come across ladies of all ages and professions wearing the TF. Looks great on all! It didn't look old on the younger girls or too young on us oldies.

But as with all jewellery, you must see what speaks to you. Which one can't you stop thinking about? Don't buy the TF cause it's a good price. Buy it because you love it.

With Cartier - you can't go wrong. As I advised another tPFer, when you purchase it, make sure to come post mod pics in the Cartier watch thread.

+1 I just love this watch in any of the sizes. :D

Cartier Tank Solo with a leather band would be my choice. Not sure which size as that would depend on which one looks best on your wrist.

As you plan to wear this everday to work it would be best to pick the most discrete model. With the leather band you can change the band for variety. Seem to remember a beautiful satin band for evening.

As this is a graduation gift stuck with the most classic choice. You can branch out into more dramatic watches later.

Congratulations on your graduation and new job.

I'd do choice c or a. Franchise is a classic and will work with casual and dressy attire. The Tank Solo is great, too, but looks best with a leather or satin strap, in my opinion.

I vote for the Cartier tank solo with (preferably black) leather strap. Personally I like the small size since it is so elegant and timeless. I feel this watch style is the epitome of effortlessness and sophistication.

Then again, I'm biased because I desperately want one for myself!!

I know you have only specified Tanks and I do think they look great, but have you thought about the Ballon Bleu watches? They look stunning but are still versatile enough to wear every day!
