Hello all I'm new to this forum and looking for some help from you all on which bag to treat myself to for my birthday. I have always marked big occasions / milestones in my life with a special bag. For example when I finished medical school I treated myself to my first designer bag - a mulberry Alexa in tan.

I always thought for my 30th I'd treat myself to a Classic Chanel Jumbo Flap in black with gold hardware, however, having gone to harrods on the weekend and seeing the latest stock it looked really cheap to me in real life and didn't make me have the special feelings I get when I get a new bag. Also reading through the forum I've realised a lot of you have commented that quality recently isn't great with Chanel bags.

So I was wondering if you could give me ideas which bag to get instead or reasons for the classic flap?

In my collection I already have:
1. Red Prada hobo bag
2. Mulberry Alexa in Tan
3. Mulberry Bayswater in Oak
4. Mulberry Lily in Deer
5. Prada Galleria in beige

Any advice ideas much appreciated :)

Yep I’ve had one for a few years now and it’s so durable. (The list was bags I already have) No idea what to treat myself to now though if I don’t get the Chanel classic flap.

Oh sorry!

It would really help if you had a little wish-list from which to either pick or suggest something similar.

If you like the Chanel flap style but not Chanel there are plenty of bags like that around. Gucci Marmont, Diorama etc. I would go with your BF shopping (or go by yourself) and try lots on.

Moynat, Valextra, Dlevaux are all easier to get hold of now if you were disappointed with the usual selection of premier bags, may just take a bit more planning.

I feel like the Classic Flap is so ubiquitous now, I would opt for a Reissue or Boy instead. That, or like someone else said, a Diorama. I absolutely love my Diorama, it's just the right amount of bling but the more muted versions could make good day bags. (And the craftsmanship seems to have held up.)

Gucci Marmont or LV Pochette Metis in Empreinte might be my top 2 if you're looking for a flap; the Empreinte leather seems to be indestructible so it would make a good everyday bag. As the joker in the deck I'd throw in Longchamp Madeleine as well. It's a top handle flap and also comes in a smaller size that has the top handle and a crossbody strap.

Mulberry bayswater in oak gets my vote! Are you in the US? For some reason I haven't seen that color on the website lately...talk about bizarre! When that's one of their classic colors?!
