Help! What color should my first S.O. exotic be???

Hello TPFers! My SA just gave me the opportunity (my first) to S.O. an exotic skin bag (croc, ostrich, lizard). I am excited but super nervous to make the wrong choice of color. It's unlikely that I would purchase another exotic for a long, long time and I would love to choose a color that will feel special and gorgeous but not too "out there" as I would love to get really good use out of this bag over many years and not just take it out a few times a year.

I tend to wear YG jewelry the most so I definitely want to choose gold HW. As for the skin, I prefer lizard or croc…. I'm not a big ostrich person. So, that's two decisions down. Now for color! The most PRACTICAL choice is black, of course, and I know I'd get a ton of use out of it. But I am a teeny bit concerned I'll regret making such a safe choice. My second-favorite color in Hermes is bleu de Prusse, now sadly discontinued…. wish I'd been able to find a bag in this color while it was still available. Dark miel would be a lovely color and so would burgundy but I'm a little concerned I will feel too matronly with these?

My non-exotic bags to date are vert anis 30 Birkin with rose shocking interior (lucky me, someone else did not want their S.O. when it came in), a black 30 togo Birkin, a gold 35 Vache Liegee Birkin (about 20 years old now), and a 30 Havane Birkin. I have two medor clutches but no exotics. My most-worn clothing colors are navy and black. My favorite accent color in clothing is coral. I am very fair-skinned and blond.

I would love to hear your thoughts and recommendations on YOUR favorite and most-worn colors and skins (croc or lizard?) in Hermes bags, and if you have had any 'second thoughts' about your choices! Thank you all so much in advance for your thoughts!

Why not consider a Bi Colour Birkin with Black as your exterior and a pop of colour inside (Amethyst or Rose Scheherazade or A nice shade of Blue since you like blue) Matte Croco in GHW.

This is my dream bag or you could consider a bag at the opposite end of the spectrum with a drool worthy Himalayan Grey in GHW with etain or taupe interior.

Both are my dream bags!

What style bag are you considering and what size? If I missed it in the original details, my apologies. Do love a purple exotic. I have graphite matte croc which I also love but that may be too boring. And I also have a green shiny croc. Though he color is gorgeous i may not recommend because it will be very loud and noticeable, especially in a Birkin or Kelly.

Have you ever seen Beton? It's one of my all time favorite matte croc colors. It's such an elegant light grey - would be very easy to go with your wardrobe as you've described. I would do Beton with Graphite pipping with matte gold hardware. Matte black is always nice but I think if this is probably your only exotic for a while, I would go with something that's a little more wow but still timeless and elegant.

Otherwise I would probably take a look at what's available in lizard since lizard is so hard to come by. However, I think would lizard you would have restrictions in terms of size of bag you can order. In recent years, I have only seen lizard in B25 and K25.

So interesting that many have suggested thinking about ordering matte. I can't believe I hadn't thought about this aspect at all and that is why I love tpf! I think it's a very good suggestion - more modern looking and subtle. I think I'll probably stick with birkin style since that is what I gravitate towards. Graphite looks stunning in pix; I've never seen it in person. What shade of green do you have?

I have never seen this color! I am going to to look it up now! Thank you so much for the suggestion. I have seen Gris Elephant; is it similar? I thought Elephant was a lovely neutral shade.

This is another color I have never seen. TPF is an incredible source of such knowledgeable collectors - thank you for sharing this idea with me! I asked me SA if I could come in and look at the color swatches; I'll be sure to ask to see this.

As for lizard, that's a tough one. If I got a smaller bag it would likely be just for evening and I'd love a day bag. I wish my budget (and ability to S.O.) stretched to two! :laugh:

Gris Elephant is a little darker and has brownish tones in it. Gris Paris is more of a true grey. It is stunning. It's very elegant.
