Help! Shiny City GSH

Hi guysssss, first time Bbag owner here.

So I got myself a Black City G12 with Silver hardware. I had the choice of a more matte leather, and a shinier, seemingly thinner one. And in the bright store lighting, the shinier one looked better with GSH. I thought the shine would eventually give way to a matte leather, but after reading some posts here, apparently not.

However, in daylight, the shiny leather just does not work, the leather seems to be rather bad quality? How do you ladies see the quality of the leather?

Will appreciate if I can have some inputs on the leather quality/shine of the bag. Thanks!

I also noticed that my bag seems to be slouchy and rather "broken in" for a new bag?

Black with g12 silver is a gorgeous and classic combination. You've done well!! From the distressing on your bag I can understand why it is "slouchy".... the more "veins" the bag has, the more opportunities there are for the bag to "fold in" upon itself. Balenciaga bags are at their best when they're slouchy like this, so I would not worry a bit about that. It is ultimately where Bals are headed, and where most ladies prefer them, so you've simply gotten a head start without having to do the work of breaking her in! IMO the distressing on the leather looks wonderful.

The shine. It will most likely dull down a bit with time, but it is unlikely to become a matte bag like the leather of old. If it bothers you and you have the option to return, I would return for the less shiny bag. If not, I still would not fret, because it is a truly beautiful and timeless bag regardless. In my experience Bals tend to hang onto their shine, there are bags from 2003 that still have a gorgeous sheen to them. however, you could take it to a leather specialist and ask them if there is anything they can do to gently cleanse the leather and make it a bit less shiny. I was faced with the same dilemma not long ago when I purchased a 2015 gris fossile bag sight unseen, and when it arrived it was so shiny it looked like patent leather. Luckily I was able to return the bag (after a mighty struggle with the company that sold it to me), so I didn't have to take that step. But my next option, should I have had to keep the bag, was to take it to the very best leather specialist I could find (I coincidentally happen to have the leather specialist the Bal boutique uses right down the street from me) to ask them what they could do to "rub it down" a little bit. Take this road with caution though, you would hate to wind up with something worse than what you started with.

Best of luck to you, and know that no matter what happens, the bag you've chosen is a classic and a beautiful choice!
