Help redesigning earrings

I got these earrings from a then-boyfriend when I was 17, and now Im 24, and I have only worn them about 5 times, as I think they are too "grown up".

So I thought about redesigning them (or what its called).

Its 14k yellow gold with small diamonds (dont know their size).

I thought about making them into simple studs, but also feel that it would be a waste, since I have the extra gold to use.

And Im also worried if I might regret it, because maybe it would be my style later, as they are pretty IMO.
