Hello all,

I a hoping for advice on caring for a watch with an alligator strap. The watch is new and the strap is extremely stiff. I feel really uncomfortable when I bend the strap to get it through the loops. It feels as though the strap is, how do I say it, getting scuffed while I'm trying to loop it.

Also, would the scales 'peel' back if I bend it too hard?

And how do I care for it on a regular basis?

My apologies for the lack of proper terminology. I don't wear watches often and this was a beautiful gift.

Alligator and crocodile straps are actually more durable than they look like. You need to somehow "break them in" so that it'll be easier for you to put them on. If they are good quality, the scales shouldn't crack or peel unless you really bend them hard/flat. As for caring for the straps, just try to avoid contact with water when washing your hands but a few droplets shouldn't be a problem.
