Hi all,

I recently treated myself to a pair of Tod's Gommino Pasante lug-sole loafers. I've been wanting a slightly chunky loafer for a while now, and after spending weeks looking at, and discarding, various styles, I decided to order these from Saks.

Gorgeous, exactly what I was looking for, and so incredibly comfortable. Just one problem: if I walk on any surface except a carpet or rug, they squeak. Not a tiny discreet squeak, either, but an embarassingly loud squeak that sounds almost flatulent.

I'm going to assume it's the rubber(ish?) sole? Then again, I have other rubber soled shoes that don't do this, and I wouldn't expect it from a $700 shoe.

Anyone else have this problem and, if so, how did you fix?

I'm about to send them back, it's really hilarious but ultimately not acceptable.

Thanks!

I have several pairs of Tod's loafers and some of their sneakers, and they don't squeak like that at the sole, but... there's one pair where the leather tends to stick to the top of my foot and then release as I take a stride and it totally sounds like flatulence. So, I feel your pain! I don't wear that pair very often because of it, so they weren't really a great investment. If yours are making the sound on a regular basis I'd send them back and try a different style. They do make good quality shoes... I have a pair of pre-pandemic black loafers that I wore at least 2-3 times a week to work back then and they still look great years later when I only wear them about once every couple of weeks.

Yes, extremely well made and so comfy. But the squeaking is crazy loud on any surface except a carpet or rug. Unfortunately I have to send them back. I just can’t walk around like I’m in a Charlie Brown cartoon LOL

I have very narrow feet and have this issue whenever the shoes are brand new and fit a bit wide on me. I've found wearing socks with them help with filling in the gap to prevent the squeaky noise, until the shoes are completely broken in and the noise disappeared

It's maddening, isn't it? I had a pair of running shoes that did the same thing. Nothing fixed it for those, either.

That sucks! I had a pair of Crocs at one point that won't stop squeaking too, I've given them to my cousin since she work at the hospital and they didn't squeak as much when she wore them  For the price and craftmanship, definitely not worth dealing with the squeaky noises, how embarrassing!

Hi, - I had the same problem with the rubber soles; last attempt to solve it was to use vaseline around edges of sole. It kind of worked..... but soooo frustrating!
