Hi everyone!

I am so excited that my soon to be DH is going to buy me a right hand ring for my bday!

The reason I am choosing this ring is very special. It is going to be the "something blue" in our wedding.:yahoo:

I think I am set on blue topaz because I like the color and it is the Texas gemstone (Texas is where we live). If not blue topaz then maybe tanzanite or sapphire?

Anyways, I have posted a few of the styles that I am looking at (cuts and mountings). Please give me your opinions.

Also, which ring on the right hand does it go on? Right middle finger or ring finger????

Oh and I am looking to get a 1 carat...I don't want it to outshine my engagement ring which is 1.5 radiant. Is that a good size?

Btw..I am leaning towards the pear shape, but wanted to know what everyone thought. Thanks!

Thoughts??

I like the one on the left, oval/round can't tell from the pic. It seems very classic as the right seems like it could be too trendy or dated. Happy birthday/congratulations !

I prefer the oval. Very pretty!

Also keep in mind that 1 carat in a diamond is not the same as 1 carat in other stones. Carat is the actual weight and not the actual size of a stone; a 1 carat topaz may be substantially larger than a diamond because it is not as heavy.

I have a blue topaz and it's prob. similar to size to the oval and it's 7 carats. And I think the oval blue topaz looks great!! Very classic and will not take all of the attention on your wedding day, esp. from your wedding ring. Have fun choosing!! They are both nice!!

thanks everyone! well i just got off the phone with my jeweler. i really like the mounting of the pear shaped ring. she says she can probably make that mounting with the oval shaped gemstone.

i am really surprised that nobody likes the pear shaped gemstone. i truly thought it was very unique. i happen to not like pear shaped diamonds, but this pear shaped topaz is really pretty.

the jeweler says that a 6 carat topaz would be just fine.

i would still like to get some feedback from others :)

Anyone else?

I prefer the oval shape to pear, & I prefer the oval setting. I don't think it matters if you get a larger gemstone ct wt than your engagement diamond. I think it's common/normal to see larger colored stones than diamonds.

I think that a right-hand ring on your ring finger is a classic choice.

I wore an inherited aquamarine ring on my right hand for my "something blue." I also wore my e-ring on the right with the aqua until after the ceremony.

best wishes for your special day!

I definitely prefer the oval. If your ER is a radiant cut, I would think a pear shaped RHR would compete with it too much. Stick with oval.

Oh, and I love your choice of blue topaz! That was the first stone my husband (then boyfriend) ever gave me! So I'm biased!!!

thanks! i have narrowed it down to 3 rings. i have attached them. the setting will be the one pictured on the pear (with no outer ring-just pave).

so, the first one is a cushion cut, the second is pear and the third is oval. i am still in awe by the pear. not sure why tho. i just think it is different. i like unique things. i feel like the cushion looks too similar to my radiant and extremely trendy. thoughts?

i have attached my wedding ring which is currently at the jeweler. my centerstone is a 1.5 radiant (not the round pictured on the wedding ring). i have attached a pic of a radiant for those who are unfamiliar with the cut. mine happens to be a very square radiant.

so now which one do i go with now that you all have an idea of what my wedding ring looks like????? :graucho:

If the pear is what's grabbing you, that's what you should get! You're the one wearing it ;)

As to which finger: IMO bigger rings look best on the middle finger while daintier rings look best on the ring finger. Not sure what size you're going with, but once you know that I think it will inform your choice.
