Help me shop! What bag do I get?

So I have done a little well at work recently so thinking I'm going to treat myself to another bag.

Budget up to $1,200/$1,400 not higher than that (happy to consider lower prices 2 but I want something special).

So many options..

I do not have any LV bags. Not one. Plus with their price hikes each year I am thinking it might be a good idea to invest in one now while they are still in the realms of sensible and not yet Chanel land. I was thinking the Speedy 30 but open to persuasion on this. Also the resell value for L.Vs is comforting.

The downside is I see everyone and their dog with an L.V.
Now I am guessing all are not genuine ones, I know there are a lot of fakes out there, from a distance ita hard to tell. I could spend my hard earned dosh on something that everyone has and that no one knows if it's real or not (I know, I know but anyhow).

The other option is not to care about brand name, filling a hole for an LV in my closet and ignoring their good investment potential and going for something more unique and understated. This is where I could need help... if you were going to buy a really beautiful, well made bag that could last forever. A bag that's classic and understated. A bag most people wouldn't recognize because it's not a mainstream designer with logos all over it. What bag would you pick?

So do I

1. Yes girl go for an L.V! They are amazing, last forever and are a great investment. You will love it.

Or

2. Be a fashionista and choose something special that only those in the 'know' know about. Impeccable leather, understated, practical, classy. If number 2.. *what* bag would you recommend.

I'm really not hung up on anything right now.

Help me spend some money! Thanks ladies!

I don’t ow LV for the reasons you mentioned, plus the fact that they are so incredibly recognizable and people will ask about it. I can wear my Chanel jumbo and still have people be like “wow, that’s a really nice bag where did you get it?” Doubt that could happen with LV!

But there are so many answers under number 2! What size, type bag where you thinking? I would personally get something like the Saint Laurent loulou, a Céline trio or something(love Céline for being classy and understated) or a small antigona I think, but it all depends on what your looking for!

What sort of bag are you looking for?
- Something large to use daily for work?
- Something smaller and lighter for weekends?
- Something for a dressier occasion?
- Crossbody? Satchel? Hobo?

Oh yes I forgot to say that!!
I dont like bags that are too big or too small. So not a small crossbody or a large tote.
A medium size satchel, handle or shoulder type bag is normally what I go for.
Nothing too deep, hate reaching into a deep narrow abyss scrabbling round for my keys.
Looks wise, I guess feminine, modern yet nothing too fussy.
I know its hard to describe the exact sort of bag but that's why I am open to any suggestions :). I feel like I have no idea at the moment and I dont want to regret my purchase.
Any help is *greatly* appreciated!

Also it will be used as a nice every day bag so up for wear and tear and a colour that's not going to get filthy really quickly.
It needs to fit my phone, purse, sunglasses, lip paint and keys plus one or 2 other items yet be a bag that is smart enough that it can also go out for dinner as well if I dont have time to swap to one of my small more evening bags. Basically an allrounder.

I would definitely go for option #2. The quality of LV has really declined and I think the monogram has become so common place and the emblem of the upper middle class suburban mom. There are a plethora of contemporary designers delivering quality products without the status price tag. This thread has a ton of great options:

Thanks so much I will read through it!
I agree I see them everywhere, if I'm spending money I like things that hold their value so that was a plus point. I tend to go classic..chanel, diamond solitare
, cashmere long coat, things that dont date. For every day fun stuff I love the high street.
However I'm not planning on selling it so it probably doesn't really matter. I am terrible for not selling handbags, I have all these memories that attach to them and then they go in a pile somewhere where I dont use them but I cant bear selling them for XYZ reasons.
Anyway I digress.. I will look at that thread. I'm already leaning towards option 2, it's why I dont own one already. Not that I want to seem snobby as obviously they are nice and very popular for a reason.
Thanks!!

I was sort of falling out of love with LV but I visited an aunt this weekend and she had a monogram tote with her, not sure of the model. But she loves the patina because she's had the bag for so long she feels it had aged with her. Having a visual marker, the patina, sounds like a fun way to bond with your bag and gives it a sense of history. If you get the speedy 30, maybe consider the speedy 30 bandouliere as it has more carry options.

I like all bags it's so hard to choose but it makes researching fun.

In the end I chose one of the Leo et Violette bags. 1. Because they are small company . 2. I liked it. 3. I know no one else in my town will have it. 4. If it's nice I'm going to buy my sister one so we can be close (even though we live in different countries).

I still may get an LV but I went to a birthday party at the weekend and no joke 4 of the mums had one!!

Other bag I found that I really liked was the Mulberry Bayswater, they are having a sale right now so that's on my radar depending on how work goes :).
