I am really bad at dressing myself & my usual uniform is jeans, a black shirt, and chuck taylors. That said, I have a few You Have To Look Nice occasions coming up soon and I need at least one probably two nice dresses. I have absolutely no idea what kinds of colors I should be looking at to flatter my ghastly skin tone. To complicate matters, I am also a size 24 (W, not 24 waist) and I am deathly afraid of color. So here's a picture of my skin tone and if you have a color suggestion for a tall, sickly-pale plus size lady I will love you forever and ever

Sorry about the goofy picture btw, it's the only thing I could find that accurately displays my color.

I'm not even tackling budget or style until I can figure out some sort of color that looks good on me - I barely own anything except jeans and black shirts & when I go shopping my fiance doesn't ask what I bought, he asks how many black shirts I bought! I'm trying not to be afraid of color but it's pretty deeply ingrained into fat girls to wear black, black, black and I don't wanna look like I'm going to a funeral!

I think blues and purples will look great on you. We have similar skin tones and those are really the only colors I can get away with. I have to completely stay away from green, yellow and orange tones. I know you don't have a nordstrom in your area, but here are some quick examples of dresses in shades that I think would be good for your coloring:

If you really want something bright and flattering, go with something the color of your lips. I do this all the time with nail polish and shirts. It's naturally flattering because it's already part of your complexion.
