I LOVE LV

I have always been a bag/purse lover. I'm the type who can have many many bags but stick to only 1 wallet and 1 watch. I'm lazy to switch wallets all the time and I have extremely skinny wrist, very bony-looking wrist, :push: so finding the right watch for my wrist is quite a challenge. So I tend to stick to my current (cheap) watch that I have been wearing for years. :p

Recently, I've been thinking of taking the plunge to buy a really nice watch since I will be wearing it for years. With my skinny wrist, I can't go for a really small watch, or it will make my wrist looks even skinnier. And of course I can't go for huge watches as the face of the watch would already be bigger than my wrist. :sweatdrop: My current watch is medium sized with square face and metal strap (some leather straps make my super-sensitive skin itch and allergic :blushing:).

I know nuts about watches, so would really need some recommendations. I prefer won't-go-wrong brands like Rolex, Omega, Cartier, etc but my current budget - $1000-1,200, may not allow me to buy from these brands. My second choice is perhaps Tag Heuer? Since I plan on sticking to 1 watch for years, I want it to be timeless, classic, durable and versatile.

So here's my questions:

1. What is the one watch that you will choose, if you can only have one to use for say, 10 years? :p Pix would be great!

2. What are the price of the entry-level watches for the brands I mentioned above?

3. Given my budget, would it be better to wait and save more, so that I don't have to buy another watch few years down the road, or get an entry-level watch and stick to it (as for now, I don't think I can spend more than $2,500 on a watch, even if I managed to save up that much, so my max would be $2,500)?

4. Is there like a great all-time classic, never-go-wrong kinda watch that is suitable for first-time buyers like me, almost like the LV mono speedy 30, watch-version? Lol...

Thanks everyone, and sorry for the long post! :flowers:

This is the timeless watch I have for my small wrist (Baume & Mercier Hampton or Diamant models). These definitely fall in your price range.

This is a rough idea to get an all stainless steel watch, but of course it depends on where you buy it and which model you fall in love with.

Omega $1.5K
Cartier $3.5K
Rolex $4K

You don't have to buy another watch down the road if you get a quartz watch. You just have the jeweler replace the battery. Is your goal to have watch that is like a piece of jewelry, or just an elegant one that tells the time? You can get a very very nice watch for much less than $2,500.

If you aren't planning to be a watch collector, I'd buy one nice watch that you love.

Never-go-wrong/first time really depends on the gal and her style. But if you are looking for the most popular styles, I'd say the Omega Constellation, Cartier Tank Francaise or the Rolex Datejust.

I'd recommend visiting a Tourneau if you have one near you (they carry all of the lines you mentioned above, including Baume that I mentioned) or your favorite jeweler to get a sense of what you like.

You could find a nice pre-owned classic, vintage Rolex anywhere from about $1,000 and up. It just takes a lot of patience and research. If you plan to go that route I would first find a reputable dealer and then find the watch.

Good recommendation from couturequeen. I am not too sure about prices in your country but here's my suggestion:

1. Omega Constellation
2. Longines Dolce Vita
3. Cartier Tank Francaise
4. Rolex Datejust

If you only want ONE watch, then don't limit youself to what you can afford now which is 2,500. You might want to save more and get what you have been eyeing for, that way you'll be more contented.
