So I've been wanting a hobo shoulder bag. Does not need to be crossbody, really looking for something that fits nicely under the arm. It should be able to fit over a coat, but not sit too low. Budget at absolute max is $2350, which is the cost of one whose look I like but will probably not get. Less is more, though, on the budget front so similar looks for less are especially welcome. However, I strongly prefer to buy new in this case rather than preloved. But here are 2 that I really like the look of. Notice in both cases the strap is not attached to the body with hardware, but is rather an extension of the body itself.

Also this Gucci Aphrodite in Medium, and apologies if 'hobo' is not the correct term for it:

If money were no object, I would have bought the Gucci already, but it is an object, so that's why I'm hesitating. The Givenchy look is great, I think I might even like that one more, and it can stand up on its own which is awesome (Gucci cannot), but there is no true closure, not even a magnetic one like the Gucci; it's just the weight of the padlock. And even worse, there is not even one pocket inside the Givenchy.

There's this much more affordable Rebecca Minkoff that has similar structure, but lacks something. Just looks a little 'meh'.

There's this Dooney, which I like better than the RM, but which still isn't hitting quite right on how the strap relates to the main body; there's still more of a demarcation than I was looking for:

Also, even though I complained about the Givenchy having no true closure, both the RM and the D&B closures look more fiddly than I'd like. Zippers or magnets are my preference, maybe turn locks, but not actual clips things or hooks or something.

I appreciate all suggestions! Thank you!

Thank you @LizzieBennett That Ferragamo is quite similar to the Gucci. It is true that a heavyish bag does not bother me. Especially as long as it's less than 2lb.

@indiaink , thank you for that affordable suggestion. Shape is a good match, though it would be cooler if it had some kind of decorative metal clasp. I guess it makes a good blank canvas

Thank you @RBee for the Tod's suggestions. That's a brand I never thought to look at, and the timeless collection is beautiful. Especially the tote one, it's still hobo-ish in a way.

I would throw Gucci Jackie in the game as well.
Thanks! Do you mean the ones out now or those large ones from the past? The ones out now are out of budget for me, and at least for this purchase, I’d rather not do preloved. Though I’ve never had a bag with a piston lock, while chic looking, it looks like it would be fiddly to close. Jackie’s one of those bags I have to admire from afar.

There are loads of pristine preloved larger Jackies out there. I would be the person that would just leave the lock open if I knew I had to reopen it soon. But you know your needs and wants - luckily the style is a classic and there are many options!

Actually the RM has a magnetic closure so it really shouldn’t be “fiddle” at all. I’ve heard the D&B can get heavy, all in all I like your potential choices. I think the RM is only about $119 on sale on the website right now.

Perhaps you could also take a look at Polo Ralph Lauren's calfskin shoulder bag which comes in both medium and small.

Hoping to see the bag you get ultimately! Happy bag-hunting!
This is a nice affordable alternative, thanks for the recommendation! It’s differently shaped than the others I was looking at, with the round bottom. I had not been thinking of that kind of hobo, but will give it some consideration.

Thanks to everyone for the discussion. In the end, I chose the Gucci. I think I'm an odd one out in that I like sizable logos. Maybe not allover logos, but I do like something like the big GG on that bag. I really like the Givenchy, too, with its big decorative padlock, and if I could have seen it in person, maybe I would have chosen it. But I couldn't see the Givenchy in person, and I could see the Gucci in person, and liked it.
