help me find a knockout gown for black-tie event

I have a formal black tie event in a few months and I'm thinking about getting a new dress for it. So ladies show me your favorite formal dresses. I could use all the ideas I can get.

Here is the feel I am going for. Not necessarily this style of dress but I like the elegance of it.

I was just looking through all the dept, stores (Saks, neimas) and I can't find a one shoulder I really like! That's my favorite design though.

I really like that first one. Thanks so much. I even like the color. Although I like one shoulder styles, I would also be happy with strapless or spaghetti straps. But I definitely want to show some skin.

oooh...formal events...my specialty lol bc I go to at least 3 a week! what kind of a price range are you looking at and are you getting the whole outift (shoes, etc.) or just the dress?

civicgirl that dress is really beautiful. And they have my size too. eek.

FrancescaAveiro this is one of the biggest events of the year so I want to look nice. On the other hand I'm in school full time so I can't really justify spending much more than $1000. On the other hand, since I'm in scool full time I haven't been to many fancy parties in the past few years so I haven't spent much on dresses and such. So maybe I have a good excuse to spend more??? I'm also considering wearing vintage so I can get more dress for the money.
And thank you for all the lovely suggestions. I can't believe how gorgeous and well priced they are!
