Help me decide on setting style please!

Hi there! I will probably be upgrading my diamond this year. I am deciding between a simple style kind of like the Tiffany Novo. I like this because I appreciate the clean lines and it really shows off the diamond itself.

Or the Harry Winston micropave style. I have had a thing for halo's for awhile so this is a definite style option for me. When I say these names I will not be getting brand name versions but just similar looking settings. What do you think? Thanks!:smile1:

The novo is a little bit too "ordinary" looking to me because I find it's becoming pretty popular to imitate. Also, I see a lot of people in my group of friends getting engaged with a cushion diamond on a novo-esque band so it makes me resist it. The two people that got engaged immediately after me both have the same similar ring. So my first instinct is HW-esque micropave halo!

But I it also depends on the center stone.... if it's pretty substantial like 5+ carats then I'd keep it a little more low key and go with something like the novo. I perfer halos on stones in the 1 carat to maybe 2.5 or 3 carat range... between 3-5 carats is a toss up.

I prefer the Novo, because I see halos everywhere. I love halos with step cuts and I do like how delicate the HW pave is... But it may be hard to replicate that delicate setting.

I would think about adding double claw prongs to the Novo design to make it a little different. The Novo setting is a little higher than I like, so I would adjust that.

I also agree - what size/shape center are you considering?

I don't prefer halos, although they're gorgeous!

I have tried both styles on. I really like them both. I will be looking at stones in the 1.5-1.75 range.

I definitely like the halo style, but lately, I have been noticing I have been gravitating to more simple styles, like solitaire with a pave band. I like the clean look of it. So I guess I am still not sure! But thanks for your input so far!

If you like the clean look but are wow'ed by the halo, and do end up getting the halo...it'll could get OLD real fast.

That's what happened to me. I was wow'ed by it and after a year, it was way too busy looking so I switched to a simple setting with 2 side baguettes for extra omph!

In that case, Im inclined to agree with the above...go with the Novo style and not a halo. Investing that much in a setting that you very likely could get sick of quickly isn't going to be a good investment and you might regret spending the money. Have you considered a Split-Shank option? I think it's the Lucida style that comes in that set up.

I'm not a big fan of the Novo - I think I dislike the micropave on it. If it came on a plain band, it would be fine - but then, it wouldn't be a novo, it would just be a solitaire cushion.
I much prefer the HV, i think it's more beautiful, and more special than the novo.
