I want to add one of the Celine Triomphe smaller style bags (either the chain or shoulder style) in black leather, as I need a good/small going to dinner, going out, wear to events type bag but something that could be worn to a dressy event but also with jeans and a blazer. My question for the group is - is the shoulder style too casual to be dressed up? Is the chain style too dressy for every day dinner out? Would love your opinions!

I was debating the triomphe WOC but it's not my favorite as compared to the shoulder and chain styles. I don't like that the clasp on that bag is a button you have to press into the bag to close. That mechanism will cause the bag to crease in over time (and I'm a crazy person and take pristine care of my bags, lol).

Based on your description of what you're looking for, I'd go for the chain. It shines beautifully against the smooth leather. I feel it perfectly accents the logo without being too much.

Personally for me, if I was going out to an event or dinner, I'd choose the chain over the leather strap. I feel that the chain version also can be dressed down.
On the other hand, the leather strap just has an overall more casual and down-to-earth look. I think it's great for business casual wear and casual wear but it would not be my first choice for a nice evening bag.

If you're a person who loves to keep your bags in pristine condition, if that is smooth leather, make sure you're comfortable with babying it. I heard that smooth leather can be buffed out if there are scratches but if you get upset about getting scratches in the first place, I'm not sure if you'd be able to enjoy your bag.
The chain may also create very faint hairline scratches. Personally I would not care though. I don't baby my bags (probably borderline abuse them lol)

On a side note I have the triomphe shoulder bag in white canvas with the triomphe logo print and I love it, especially in the summer. I got it for around $2200 USD, would not pay for the current price :yucky:

@lill_canele Thanks for this thoughtful response! I am leaning chain as well, but can't decide. I don't mind usual wear and tear on bags, but when a bag has an inherent design that leads to more wear, that drives me crazy. I've managed to keep Chanel lambskin bags in great condition, so I'm not too concerned about the shiny calfskin, particularly given it won't be an every day bag.

The white shoulder version sounds stunning! What a steal on price, too. I've punted on Chanel for that reason, I can't justify classic flap costs when so many fashion houses offer equally as high quality bags in similar styles.

Maybe try them on first. The chain didn't stay on my shoulder after moving around a bit, so i used it most of the time as a clutch or handbag.
The leather strap does. The chain is definitely a better choice for evenings, it sparkles when the light hits
Ahh that would be a little annoying. Good call! thank you!

As far as aesthetician go, my vote also would be the chain as it definitely looks dressier for evening but I can also picture it looking cute with even jeans and a t-shirt. However, given last post, trying on to determine practicality is a good suggestion.

I just added the leather strap shoulder Triomphe to my collection, with the purpose of using it both casually and also with more dressy-casual outfits. I bypassed the chain strap version because I have other bags with chain straps, and didn't need another bag with a noisy strap (when I set it down on a chair or table, etc), but that's just me.

I have the version with the chain and actually went for this version because the regular kept slipping off my shoulder! I find that it can be worn casually with jeans a white tee, but it does definitely dress it up. Sometimes too much.
