Full transparency - I also posted this thread in the accessories subforum, but want to get some advice on Cartier subforum as well.

———

Hi everyone! I am considering getting a gift for myself, and I am torn between these two necklaces:

1 - Cartier panthère: https://www.cartier.com/en-us/jewelry/necklaces/panthere-de-cartier-necklace-CRB7224538.html

2 - Boucheron plume de paon: https://www.boucheron.com/us/plume-de-paon-small-pendant-pink-gold-jpn00602.html

Both of these come in white gold version as well. I do have to admit that the city where I live in do not have big boutiques for the brands (we have a small Cartier store), so I have not tried these on yet. I plan to visit the stores in a month or so when I have a break from work.

I am curious to see what everyone here would advise? I have a pretty casual life style, only going into the office occasionally with business casual attire. I wonder which one, in your opinion, is more beautiful?

If you happen to own one of these, please do share a picture! Thank you!

I prefer the plume. First, because it has more diamonds, including on the chain. Second, its design is more detailed and intricate. Third, it’s easier maintenance, since the lacquer spotted panther is prone to chipping and scratches with its mostly metal design.

Boucheron is also a bit “higher” than Cartier. So there is maybe also that feeling of extra specialness, since opening a Boucheron box would be quite unique.

I feel that if I could only pick one, I’d choose the plume. I like panther, too. But for $10,000 I feel like I’d get better cost per wear with the plume, since you can wear it, forget about it, and dazzle with it. With the panther, I’d have to remember to take it off when I shower. I also have a preference for different (albeit much more expensive) iterations of the panther in a pendant. I don’t feel like the whole cat design looks as dynamic or alluring — at least not in that pose.

My best friend has the Panthere necklace and wears it daily and quite casually, and it works! That said, worn casually, the look in my opinion is a little funky, kind of boho glam (but not loud). The panther is always a strong image. The Boucheron online at least looks more delicate and feminine, whimsical maybe. Both are lovely--only you know which suits your style more!

Thank you so much for your insightful and thoughtful response, @sosauce! I certainly agree with your opinions. I did not know Boucheron is considered even more ”high jewelry“ than Cartier! That‘s great to learn. I was browsing on their website - lots of their jewelry items are very intricate.

And @880 - totally agree. I definitely will not purchase online for this piece! Also on a side note - I also read a lot in the Hermes subforum, and I enjoy reading your thoughtful responses there very much.

@La Bella Figura - I also agree with everything you said. The plume de paon definitely intrigued me from the first moment I laid my eyes on it.

I own the panthere necklace and love it! I have a very casual lifestyle and wear it often. To me, it’s bold and has presence but is also really versatile. The chain is also super pretty and detailed. I get compliments when I wear mine.

This is just my opinion, but to me the feather one reminds me of Forest Gump
