I’m torn on choosing between these two

Just to give you some background. I have a 12 bag max rule in my closet. I’m very meticulous about my selections.

I currently have in my Dior collection.
1 medium book tote(black and white)
2 Montaigne 30(deep green and saddle color)
1 matte black diorama

I also have 2 birkins, 2 Kelly’s, 2 mini evelyne

I don’t necessarily need anything lol I do have a wish for an evening bag with a strap on my list but I plan to get that from Hermes.

I loved the Caro in houndstooth but something about paying 5k for fabric has me in my head.

The large book tote is something I’ve had before and didn’t wear often l but this black and gold combo is pure love

Tough call! That black and gold tote is stunning! And, the gold HW against the b&w houndstooth is striking too. My concerns with the book tote are you had a large that you did not wear often and you have a medium black and white one that might be repetitive with black and gold. Based on your collection, the houndstooth caro would be the least repetitive between the two, but I agree with your feelings about the price for a fabric bag. Both bags seem to fit your Dior aesthetic. My own personal pick would be the black and gold book tote. And, if that's your medium black and white tote in the pic, they look great together.

Personally the Dior caro bag does not speak to me but I do think the Book tote in black and gold is gorgeous!

However, it looks like you already have a book tote, just in a different size? (looking at the black and white one in the photo.) Personally I would find having 2 book totes a little redundant.

I too agree with @LavenderIce on getting the use out of a bag and agree with the sentiment about paying $5k for a fabric bag.
But... if you think about it, that's like around Chanel's price for a tweed bag (or the Chanel bag could be less). But the caveat is that the Chanel seasonal tweed bag would probably hold its value better than a Dior fabric bag.

So...I guess I would end up getting neither of them. :P Sorry not very helpful, but just my thoughts.

Agree with above. Chanel would be a good choice if you want fabric and better resell value.
I think getting a large book tote would be “repetitive” because you already have a book tote in medium size and I think medium is a more practical size.
I like Caro but I would not pay that much for a fabric Caro. I would prefer leather.
But...if you HAVE TO CHOOSE between the two, I’ll say Caro just to have something different in your wardrobe.
