Hello, ladies!

It's that time of year again...I find myself in the market for a new bag and, as usual, can't make up my mind! I've been browsing this forum for the past few days and have been really impressed with the quality of posts. Can you help me out?

As for my needs...I'm a 21-year-old student, and my budget is $500 tops (I would prefer a bag that was closer to $400 because I'd like to get a laptop bag as well). It would be an everyday bags, so I'm looking for bags that are black, navy, grey, etc. Nothing too ostentatious, but with interesting detail. Size-wise, I like bags on the larger size as I'm 5'7...nothing so huge as the ubiquitous Chanel garbage bags, but...you know!

I've narrowed down my choices to a smallish list, and I'd love to hear your opinions because I haven't seen most of these bags in person (which makes me nervous, because how the bag looks on me and how it feels is so integral). Additional suggestions are, of course, more than welcome!

Ananas Nicky Medium Hobo in grey, $400

I actually found this $100 cheaper at Mr. Charles' (http://www.mrcharlesshop.com/w083m-nickygrey.html) but I'm anxious about purchasing it from there because their return policy is that you can't return sale items...so if I didn't like it I'd be stuck with it. I love the design of this bag, though.

Ananas Isabel in grey, $460

I actually like the design of this bag better, but it's more expensive and the shape is more oblong...which tends to be unflattering on me. Hmm...

Bulga Medium Hobo in Navy, $298
http://www.bagshop.com/store/mcart.php?ID=3974
I actually saw this in person a few months ago...the leather is gorgeous! I like the bag itself a lot but I wonder if the studs won't get hopelessly dated in a few months. I guess it shouldn't matter if I really love the bag.

Anna Corinna Jet Setter Junior Tote in black, $472
http://www.lunaboston.com/ProductInfo/AnnaCorinna/16602.aspx
I love the style of this bag...though it's a little pricier than I would like and I've heard negative things about the quality of these bags.

Well, that's the lot of them....again, any input would be *much* appreciated! Thanks for reading.

I think the Coach Carly bags are really nice and have a classic look. The smaller one is $400 and the larger (which looks fairly large) is $500. It comes in black and a camel color as well.
Also, if you live anywhere near a Coach outlet, definitely go check it out. I have gotten some really nice good quality bags at the Coach outlet near me, at a lower price than in the regular boutique. They won't have the newest seasonal coach styles, because it takes a few months to a year for them to transition to the outlet, but they have a lot of the nice classic style coach bags.

What about a Marc by Marc Jacobs bag? I absolutely love this one -- the "Babe" in olive for $458. Marc bags have fantastic leather and very rich details for the price. Buy it at Active Endeavors | Shopping and get an additional 20% off by using the code "toutie" at check out. (NEVER pay full retail when you can find a coupon!) If you want it buy it quickly... I tried to buy another Marc resort bag last week and it sold out before I could snag it!

Wow! Thanks so much for all of the suggestions.

Certified-***** (I'm giggling with you, Boxermom),
I'm not much of a Coach fan - I think it's the rampant labelling that turns me off (also my problem with the Dior and MJ that you suggested), but I did see the Soho line in store last week and really liked it. The braided straps are a really nice touch. The Calvin Klein bags are great too - characteristically elegant and minimalist, though I wonder if the're not too old for me. I especially like the last tote...it reminds me of Anya Hindmarch's Carker a bit...but it's just more formal than what I am looking for. I actually saw the Kooba Natasha at Neiman's last week and liked it a lot...but I couldn't justify the expense - I'll be sick of the patent leather months from now.

Amelia,
I really like that Carly bag! You're right; it's such a classic style. I could carry it for years to come, I'm sure. Definitely something to think about.

Passerby,
The Laundry tote is really nice! It has a great shape and I like the vertical bands. I just find the chain a touch gimmicky. I love the B. Makowskis you suggested! Particularly the first. I've never heard of that line - are they carried in stores? Have you seen them in person? I'd be curious to know what the leather is like. As for Tano...I really like their bags, like the Brushwood and the Centerfold. So I am definitely thinking about those - I will at least lay them aside for the next time I can get a bag!

Bebe34,
I love Marc by Marc Jacobs. I had a few on my list originally, like the Softy Faridah. I've seen the newer line in stores and the leather is just beautiful. The only problem is that I have a few bags that I carry that look very similar to the MJ styles I liked. I want to try something a little different this time.

Thanks again, everyone, for your great ideas. You really gave me a lot to think about! At this point I think I'm going to go with the Bulga...I keep opening the picture and staring at it longingly, so I think it's meant to be. I'm not going to discount your suggestions, though - I will definitely be bookmarking this post for later ideas!

ETA: Enjoy your New Years' Eve!
