Help me choose: Montaigne BB or Onthego PM? (Black empriente)

I mean now, am I serious or just daydreaming?

Probably daydreaming, but still.

I have the Montaigne BB in black empriente. I'm surprised at how little I've carried it. But then, it's probably because of COVID.

Last week, while in the boutique, I looked at the Onthego PM, also black empriente. Wow! I loved it. I love the squareness of it. I love boxy bags. I love the openness of it. I'm drawn to that kind of bag.

What I didn't care for? The big LV in the middle of it. Meh. But I do love how easily the straps flop over.

What I love about the Montaigne? The shape delights me. I love trapezoidal bags. It doesn't carry a heck of a lot, and I often don't carry a heck of a lot these days, but I like being able to in case I end up shopping or adding/removing layers or whatnot.

Both have the lovely black with GHW. Both have nice crossbody straps.

What would it be like if I sold the Montaigne and bought the Onthego?

Is Onthego PM hard to get? There she sits, at my boutique...will she be here today and gone tomorrow?

Hmm....

Ideas?

Like I said, I might just be daydreaming, but I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I'd probably have to sell two bags.

I don't own either bag but I am in love with the look of the Montaigne! The shape and the beautiful gold zipper just really do it for me! It looks like a way more sophisticated bag. I am also not a fan of the large LV logo even though it is embossed and less noticeable.

I have and love the OTG PM in black empreinte. The adjustable shoulder strap is really nice, it’s light and casual. It’s become one of my favorite this summer.
I don’t have the Montaigne, but it was on my wishlist once upon a time. It’s a little dressier than the OTG IMO, and it’s so well-made - I wouldn’t sell it unless you’re sure you are 100% over it and will never use it again because you’re going to take a bath on it resale-wise (most empreinte pieces don’t resell nearly as high as canvas) but will end up paying out more if you want it back.

I see the onthego sagging in the mm and Gmail sizes, would that happen to a pm? Waiting to pick up my bicolor pm and getting nervous.

I prefer Montaigne BB. Try carrying it more. At first after I got my Pochette Metis, it sat in my closet for the longest time, then I just put all my belongings in there and forced myself to carry it for a week. Now I LOVE it. Hahaha. You should try the same.

I have both in empreinte except in the MM size. Personally I prefer the openness of the OTG (since it still has an inside zip pocket for securing my mini wallet, yet the bag itself can fit chunkier items if needed because it doesn’t have a central compartment like the Montaigne does). Personally I don’t think it’s worth selling a couple of bags to get it though because I’d take a gamble that the more neutral bags (ie one colour leather) are going to be around for a fair while. The OTG certainly shows no signs of potentially being discontinued any time soon, it’s so popular even a lot of other designers are bringing out similar shape styles still. I think you should keep what you’ve got since you love your Montaigne, and just save for the OTG for your next purchase.

I should do that. I have too many bags. Maybe what I need to let go of it my pink Speedy 20 empriente. That would leave me with one empriente (the Montainge BB in black) and get over the Onthego. It's adorable, but I ought to just chill.

So, I went to pick up the OTG bicolor in black and I was very disappointed at the craftsmanship. The white logo paint ran over one edge and it looked about to peel off. I was so sad, I really love the shape of the OTG. But, wouldn’t you know, a Montaigne bb showed up and I grabbed it instead!!
