Help me choose: Medium or Small Chanel CF? Vintage or New CF?

Hi lovelies!

I currently own 3 dior bags but I would like to venture into the world of Chanel as I have been liking their boyish more causal charm as I get older. This would be my first chanel bag but I am torn on (a) the size and (b) if I should get it new or vintage as they are both very different vibes. I have also never bought something second hand and I am afraid on how to go about the authentication process as well. However, as the chanel new from store prices are steep (its over $10k in SGD), I am wondering if I were to choose to sell it, would I be losing value in the long run despite the price increases? I have seen some local resellers sell it for 7-9k SGD depending on the year, combination and quality.

Also, another question on my mind, whats the difference in quality between "made in france" and "made in italy"? I have watched reviews and I saw that most people prefer "made in france".

Lastly, could we actually ask the SAs to bring out a "new" bag from the back if we do not like the one we are presented with initially?

My first chanel was a M/L black lambskin with GHW, it was my holy grail unicorn.
I have the small size too and it‘s my favorite. I prefer the shape/proportions of the bag.
Theres a debate on the whole made in thing, small and medium flaps, in my experience, are usually made in france. I personally don‘t care where it‘s made. My mini is made in italy and my flap cardholder from 2013 is made in spain and both are great. My initial M/L was made in France and it was messy all over the place so i exchanged it.

If there is stock in the back they usually bring a new one

From my experience, and I’m guessing Singapore will be similar to Malaysia-typically they only have 1 piece available (usually SHW) or you would need to get on the waiting list as they rarely have the black classic flap in stock, especially in GHW! So there won’t be much choice, but always ask the SA if they do have any at the back, you never know! I voted for the new classic flap in medium size as that is the most iconic. Hope you find your unicorn

Small size is more versatile IMO it can be easily transitioned from day to night while medium is more of an everyday bag to me and it holds more too.
I prefer made in France I think it’s better made.
There are a lot of pre-owned M/L black CF sold online just look on reliable websites, small is rarer to find I just saw one today on Vestiaire Collective at €3900 really low price and it was sold in a flash.

In Singapore, you might need to wait list for the bag you want. When I used to go to mbs Chanel, they didn’t have the stock. The staff there are very friendly though and they will text you when they have stock. I highly recommend going to mbs over Ngee Ann city.

My first Chanel was a new M/L caviar double flap. Then I bought two preloved modern style Chanels. Then I bought vintages ( like 5 vintages in 3 months haha). Vintage Chanel is very addictive and fun. However vintage caviar is almost the same price as brand new from boutique (at least in Singapore’s reseller market), so I would suggest you buy new first then vintage pieces later.

Buying your first Chanel is a slippery downhill slope. There’s no way you will only buy one Chanel haha. So go new first then explore vintage but do make sure you try the M/L in store and that you’re comfortable with the short strap.

Thank you!! Yes i had to go on a waiting list. About 2.5 weeks? I took the additional weeks to really think through although i have thought about this for years
