Hi

I would really appreciate some advice.

Last year I ordered a 40 Birkin in Etoupe Clemence with PHW. They've just rung to say that it's in, but the bag they have is a 40 Etoupe Togo with PHW, not Clemence.

I originally ordered the Clemence because it's so hardwearing, and in the 40 size I thought the larger grain would be more appropriate than the finer grain of the Togo.

Which leather do you think it works best in? I don't know whether to go along and have a look at the Togo (but am worried I'll get sucked into a sale as ALL Birkins look good in the shop!), or whether to hold out for the Clemence. I can't remember from the swatch book which grain makes the colour look darker.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks so much and Happy New Year!

Togo and Clemence can be difficult to even tell apart. I would definitely go see it in person and decide. Togo can be stiffer than Clemence but not always.

I personally like etoupe in Clemence -- it has a warmer tone -- brings out the brown undertone. But you definitely should look at the bag before making a decision as you may not notice, or care about, any difference when you see it IRL.

Etoupe is clemence is a tad shade darker than in togo. I must add though - it is not really discernible unless you are under extremely strong lighting and have the other next to it to compare. At a glance they really look like the same shade.

I would suspect that clemence might be heavier than togo, especially in a 40. Clemence will also probably slouch a lot more than togo.

If that's not an issue for you, then I would suggest going into the store to look at the grains and see if you like how the smaller togo grains compare to clemence.

I just got my Etoupe 35 phd in clemence...It is pretty slouchy on the sides. It is my first birkin , but, I had carried a friends gold 35 in togo for a few weeks to make sure I liked the birkin as a handbag(struggled with no shoulder strap). I do think they are very similar but the togo may be a tad stiffer...
