my dad's big 70th Bday is coming up, so i am thinking to get him a watch that he will always wear... nothing fancy, yet appropriate for his age. he likes a watch that is light-weighted and easy to read time. he is wearing a very simple Cartier watch my sis gave him ( i have to admit that i do not care for that watch)

any suggestios would be greatly appreciated.

very nice, cute watch, lantana19! but might be too young for my 70years old, OLD dad;) I want to get him a watch that eventually passed down to my husband, and to my son,so my price range would be, hmm up to 10K.

How about a Panerai? They aren't featherweights, but you can get it on a leather strap as opposed to a bracelet. They are known for their classic, easy to read dials and their designs haven't changed much since the 1940's. They retain their value pretty well- I've seen used ones selling for more than their current purchase price because certain models can be so hard to get. My husband ordered one in June and it hopefully comes in before the end of the year.

I assumed that since your father is older, he prefers a smaller size, so here are some of the 40 mm models (many of them are 44-45):

Model: Pam 48, Automatic ($6200)

have you checked out the timezone forums? they are to watches as tPF is to purses. A wonderful listing of high-end watches and full of pictures. I'm partial to A.Lange & Sohne watches, but even their "starter" watches bust my budget! LOL
