Hullo, dear TPFers! I´ve found my work HG in the Hermès Victoria II handbag and I´m saving for it. However, I wanted to test-run a similar (cheaper) bag in design, measures and weight so as to be absolutely sure the H one is the most practical model before splurging 3.300 Euro. I´ve seen a good one from Longchamp (Veau Foulonné)... but it´s from A/W 2013 and nowhere to be found anymore!

So if any of you savvy ladies own one like this, or remember coming across one recently, or have any suggestions, please do share!

For Victoria pics, here´s the thread "Ode to Victoria", with lots of reference shots:

Thank you very much in advance for your help! :flowers:

Pimpernel, I suggest you go to a Hermès boutique, try the Victoria on.... spend some time in the shop, just to make sure you will love the bag.... and then continue saving.
If you buy something similar, you will spend money that you will need for the Victoria...
Hope it makes sense.....😉

Good point Mariapia

Mariapia and Papertiger, it does make sense indeed. If any other brand made a bag like the Victoria then I´d buy it - alas, I have only found it in Hermès so far (I´m not a fan or any of their other bags, especially after the numerous reports of bribe-happy SAs here). I checked a Todd´s cube in black yesterday, and it´s great... but too heavy, which won´t do since I´ll carry plenty of paperwork (and the odd tablet) in it. Alas, there are no such McQueens here in Vienna.

BUUUUT, sometimes serendipity happens. I asked several colleagues, and thanks to them look what I found yersternight, tucked away a stone´s throw from my office! A tiny family workshop where they handcraft absolutely beautiful pieces for just a few hundred Euros... they were closing the shop when I arrived, but were very nice, they let me have a quick look and handle a few of their bags to feel the quality and weight. They also make special orders!:

Just look at their current offers:

And, in a smaller version:

The weight is OK (moiré silk lining), and the quality is superb. I´ll have a more leisure look today, and tomorrow, and think it through... I do believe the Muriel as a SO (bigger size) might just be perfect! What do you think? :smile1:

You´re right, half that long would be enough - as they are now, the bag hits the lower part of my hip (OK, I have a very short torso) and it looks like someone used it as a swing and stretched them :p

The Deville 2 is absolutely gorgeous. I particularly love it in glaise.
The proportions are perfect.
Made in France.
Great leather.
It's worth considering...😉
