I would gently try mr.clean magic eraser...I have had good luck with that on really grimy vachetta and vernis, it even got white paint off the vachetta. I will see if I can did up the before and after pics for you.
Before, by the way, the bag was way worse in person, than the pics, I didn't know it was going to work so well, I wish I would have taken my own before pics, these were from the auction:

I will try the Apple Guard cleaner first, I think it can take away most of the dirts, then you can use baby wipes. I would not recommend magic easer because it may dry out the leather~
Do not use magic eraser on the epi handle, the color will come off with the dirt. It's fine to use it very carefully on the vachetta but not on colored leather.
