I brought my e-ring to my jeweler on friday to have the setting tighten because my diamond was wiggling a bit. I got it back within an hour and didn't think anything of it, but as I was fidgeting with it on Saturday, I noticed the prongs were scratched and there is a small white spot right next to one of the prongs! It's small so I can't really see it clearly and it's right next to the prong so I can't really feel/touch it. I am bringing it back to my jeweler today to have them look at it. Has this happened to anyone? Can a diamond get chipped by tightening the prongs? I have been totally bummed out since Saturday! What should I do if the diamond is chipped?? Please help!

Is it possible that this spot was hidden under the prongs when it was first set and that by resetting it, the jeweler only revealed the flaw?

It's possible that the jeweler may have chipped the diamond when tightening the prongs. A jeweler should check for cracks or chips in diamonds before working on a piece, so he isn't held responsible for a flaw that is already on the diamond. Did he do this?

There were no damages when I brought my diamond in, I even checked my GIA cert to make sure it wasn't a cloud that I hadn't seen before. If it really is a chip then I'm positive it is caused by the jeweler.
